Phantom Roughness Call

that call cost me a superbowl in a fantasy league.

i had the panthers defense. giving the saints on the goal line allowed a TD instead of most likely a field goal which gave them 10 points instead of 6. this reduces the defense's points in fantasy because they they didn't give up less than 10 points and i lost my league championship by 2 points. without that call, and the saints score a field goal, i win!

that BS call cost me an entire season in that fantasy league!

Was it a defenseless receiver? No

well it was a receiver that had failed to catch a pass who was grabbed by the neck from behind

are you going to tell me that isn't a defenseless receiver?

All players in virtually defenseless postures are protected from unnecessary hits by the defense, which include helmet-to-helmet contact, helmet-to-body contact, and blows to the head. Intended receivers of forward passes who fail to catch the pass are considered to be in a defenseless position immediately after the pass is missed. If the pass is caught, all of these restrictions are off, unless in the opinion of the covering official, something unsportsmanlike occurs.

i mean it's right there in the rules.

but was that a blow to the head? the contact came with the shoulder pad and then continued through to grabbing the helmet. to me thats not a blow to the head. i was looking for a video to see if he did in fact clothesline him with the arm or forearm, but thats just not how i remember it.

It takes TEN seconds to determine that? That's right. I watched the game again and it took that long to throw the flag and from what I understand, there was no replay at BOA.

The ref threw the flag because Meachem appeared hurt. So we're going to throw flags now because someone gets hits and gets injured? What is this, soccer?

yes refs wait all the time until after the play to discuss what happened before making the call. it's not unusual at all.

no, the refs threw the flag because captain munnerlyn grabbed a guy by the neck from behind who had no chance to make a play on the ball and threw him to the ground.

this isn't difficult to understand, and the only reason you're being so willfully obtuse about this is because it involved a player on the team you cheer for.

I was watching in on TV so I didn't have all the angles but I did not see any huddling of the refs.

Captain did NOT grab him by the neck, he tackled him down with one arm. The ball HIT Meachem's hand so how's that make him defenseless?

Well, I guess it doesn't matter either way unless he gets fined. Then I'll really have an issue with it.
