And there goes my 3rd xbox 360

My Xbox started freezing for the newer games that are more demanding on the processor. It just got too hot so it locked up to keep itself from destroying the chips.

I got one of the new intercoolers (the ones that don't leech power from the 360's power supply, but instead have their own power block). Haven't had any issues since. My Xbox is 4 years old, I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

yea when i got my xbox i got the intercooler as well. between netflix and gaming, my xbox has been on at least 4-5 hours a day for the last 3 years, and so far havent had any problems. the red ring of death is definitely the biggest and only real downfall to the 360 console.

i prefer 360 because its online gaming is superior, and i like the controller better than the PS3 controller, which seems like an outdated, plastic piece of sh*t to me.

I got mine in Nov. 08. I hope I bought it after. Is there any way to tell?

i think it was september 08 when they released the new hardware. there should be a sticker on it somewhere with the barcode and date. i remember looking through the pile at best buy for the new ones when i got mine a few years ago.

no problems at all with mine, and i've left it running for days before. didn't play many games in 09, but i use it at least several times a week to stream movies (porn) to the tv.

The controller was the main issue for me when I decided to switch from Playstation to an Xbox. I had both an Xbox and Playstation, but this console generation I've only bought an Xbox360. The main reason again is for the controller. I've only been tempted 3 times to buy the PS3 but have held off:

1. the new MGS game, which from what I've heard I'm glad I held off. I don't want to be watching a fuging movie during my video games.

2. Killzone

3. Uncharted 2.

Any other PS3 exclusive game, they can keep.

I have an Xbox 360, but if it gives me the ROD it's in the trash. And I'm getting a PS3.

get the intercooler TS (the other ones will actually mess up your xbox) and you won't have any issues. Should you have to do this, no, the Xbox shouldn't have such a high defect percentage, but for 10-15 dollars, it's worth protecting your box from overheating. Getting a Pelican stand fan in addition to this will pretty much eliminate any chance of RROD.

MGS4 is badass, you can skip the cutscenes.

mine just got the RROD a week and a half ago. I'm going nuts. I bought mine second hand from a guy I knew that knew a guy. Had it for a year and a half. Its been modded though. Luckily I came across a guy that fixes RROD errors. Mine is the Two red light error (Overheating). It really blows.

Word. It's still the main reason I bought the PS3, gamewise...in fact I don't have any other games for it  and probably won't until FF13 comes out.

But, being as it can connect to the internet and is a blu-ray player, I still consider it a good investment.
