How many of these plays could Bryce make?

Now folks are saying the Panthers surrounded Cam with weapons throughout his career to prop up Bryce Young's very underwhelming start to his rookie season lol

Cam had Jordan Gross for one season then the best he got for the next decade was Michael Oher for one season. Wack ass comparison.

Y'all are equating small size with a weak arm. Bryce does not have a weak arm.

Was Cam's arm stronger? Of course. But most NFL QBs don't have an arm as strong as Cam's was.

If Bryce Young fails in the NFL it won't be because his arm is too weak.

Cam had arguably the strongest arm of any qb in the league when he came out.  He also struggled throwing touch passes.  Guy just didnt have a medium velocity.  When his arm went it was crowd the box an stop him from running, game over.

Its always wonky comparing players on different teams from different eras.  So many non constant variables.  It does make it fun to discuss tho, just sucks we have to compare so much suck.

The one thing I'll say is both were dealing with mediocre at best coaching. But Newton had the clear phsyical intangibles you seek in a #1 overall pick that allowed him to overcome a great many obstacles including poor coaching at times. We took who we thought was the QB equivalent of Professor Xavier while passing on other QB's with traits that could be making a difference right now.

Rookie/developing Cam was in a great spot.   Cam’s rookie season was a dream scenario for a rookie QB.

Young has nothing to support. He has no upside. He is just here. One of those is worth supporting and the other should rightfully be called what he is. Not good enough and a huge issue, just like most of the rest of the team.

If you really think young is good enough and the rest of the team isnt then you truly are in another reality that cant be reached.

I think we look back on that roster with rose colored glasses bc of Cam. We filled in some gaps on offense but Olsen had yet to become the force that he grew into with Cam Newton. Shockey was pretty much done after that season. Our interior defense was a sieve for the most part. One of the few bright spots was having Steve Smith. But if you believe rumors he made Cam's life tough in the locker room. And Chud? The guy who lasted one season as a head coach? Cam was the only player drafted that year to remain on the roster. Again. We are looking at that season with a homer view. Cam was a generational talent who maximized some mediocre supporting casts and a very mediocre coach. THAT is what you expect when you draft a QB at 1.

That is the complete opposite of what I said. He looks terrible and the whole 'he is on the team and the QB' means nothing to me. It's just another mistake that they can try and fix or look like fools trying to prop up. I'm not even sure Bryce can make it as a backup at this point.

Nothing rose colored about it.  People have always let how horrific Clausen was skew it.

2 Pro Bowl RBs

1 HOF WR

2 Pro Bowl TEs

Pro Bowl LT

Pro Bowl C

Most underrated lineman in Panther history in Wharton

that’s your entire blind side.  All Cam had to do was worry about the RT.  Which is basically a dream OL setup for a rookie.  And Kalil could take care of the calls for him.

that’s a flat out fantastic group around a high draft pick QB.  Who always go to bad offensive scenarios.

*Olsen was Olsen,  Bears just weren’t taking advantage of the first round TE.  Shockey while not in his prime was exactly the type great vet player you surround a rookie with.

I get the point of the thread but its a bad comp.  Cam had 3 future HoFers catching passes.  Right now we have DJ Chark, Thielen and a damn rookie.  No question BY would look better with that cast around him.  Any QB would.

His rookie year? Outside of Steve Smith, he had the likes of Brandon Lafell, David Gettis, and Armanti Edwards catching passes (along with the corpse of Jeremy Shockey at TE). Let's not pretend Cam had all world receivers to throw to his rookie year.

I forgot we did get Olsen that summer from the Bears, so he did have better receivers. Still not all world difference.

He had Byron bell and a converted DT as his starting OTs at one point. Just for more context Cams rookie year was absolute anomaly no one saw coming. Yes he had weapons around him but Cam made that possible, Olsen was struggling in chicago and hurney got him for a 3rd, smitty was coming off a down year for number of reasons and it was questions if he was still the same guy. Dwill and Stewart were not premiere backs anymore and cam ended up finishing the season second in rushing because the rbs couldnt carry load like that. Shockey was on his way out the league. Offensive line was good not great especially with byron bell starting. Cam did a lot and made that offense better than what it is was projected. Folks need to stop acting like he was carried or something because thats far from it. Trust me i remember that season very well, let's not get it out of context.

Cam also had 2 good RBs that he ran for almost as much yardage as each. I think both were within 150 yards on the year as Cam.

The compaisons ate not fair because Cam looked like a stud and Bryce looks like a dud. It's not fair but that is the reality of the situation.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
