Because Everette Brown was not a force this season, the trade was stupid. It's irrelevant if he becomes great down the line. The decision was to get someone for "now" aka 2009-2010 season push, so that's how it should be evaluated.

It didn't work out, much like many of the other Panther decisions over the offseason, and that's why we're at where we're at.

Well, the fact that our two village idiots (Gman and SMF) agree with you should be evidence that you are wrong.

First, the expectation was that we would be trading a low 1st round pick (28-32) for Brown and Goodson. The fact that we underachieved this season and thus gave up a more valuable 1st round pick, was not anticipated. Second, we needed another DE as security for the Pep issue.

Brown is exactly the type of DE that Meeks loves and has extensive success in developing. The value of this trade will not be known for another season.

we also will have 2 compensatory picks in the 6th or 7th rd

I don't think that those compensatory picks will be that low. Who else besides Tennessee lost anybody that showed worth on another team? I think Hangman will be a 4th, and Omiyale could be a 5th-6th. I totally forgot about Bridges too, he could be a 7th.

The trade was stupid for another reason. If we had just held onto the pick, we could have drafted Matt Shaughnessy from Wisconsin, a defensive end with more tackles and sacks than Brown has this season.

So we gave up a first-round pick to go get a guy that's played worse than the guy we could have just picked for nothing.

Great job FO.

hindsight is 20/20. And who knows what Shaunghnessy would have done here. Your first reason was a valid but this one doesn't hold any water.

Didn't like it then, and don't like it now.

We were fine at DE, and by the time we picked Brown, I have to assume that Hurney knew that we were not going to be able to get value from Pep to help with next season..this one.

We can all agree that if Pep were to be traded, it would be for a first, at the least, and the first round was already over, when Brown was chosen. Many of you say that he was picked up in case we couldn't trade Pep....well that was already a given. He was a just in case pick, that had no business being picked in the first place.

There was no possibility of us trading Pep on draft day or any other day. We Franchise tagged him, he didn't sign it until July last year as at that point the only option was sit out the season or play for the Panthers for what now turns out to be more than 18 million dollars.

Same thing will happen next year if we FT him again.

We have argued this over and over. Unless we were to draft a QB, any of our picks this year (even if we had a 1st) is not a sure thing to start.

Brown has a year under his belt and that will pay dividends. It isn't like this guy is a bust. We also saved money by getting him in the second round. He would probably be the top DE coming out of college this season if he didn't come out a year early.

Relax...all will work out.

Go Panthers

He also has 14 QB hurries, so he gets to the QB. Several times this year he should have had a sack but he is so small that the QB dusted him off and either got a bad pass off or one of the other Panthers cleaned him up.

Regardless, I think he should have been the rotation DE behind Johnson and Brayton this year, based off of Peppers being elsewhere.

I don't mind the Everette Brown trade, because we could potentialy have around 15th or 16th pick in the NFL Draft, now at that particular spot the Panthers would have to either reach for a player, or take BPA. If they decided to reach for a player it might not work out so well, [remember when we traded back to get Beason and also managed to get an extra pick out of the deal, we didn't reach we simply traded back and got rewarded for it.] Now if we went with BPA it also might not turn out so well, 17 of the projected 32 players to go in the first round are Offensive Lineman, Linebackers, Defensive Ends, Corner Backs, or Running Back's. Now that leaves slim hope for reaching, considering that our draft position [now the 49ers] could even be potentially in the 20's. I really don't think there is strong talent in the first round for the type of players people want. If we ended up with the 22nd pick and everyone wanted a DT, well guess what... Suh is gone, Dan Williams is gone, McCoy is gone, and Price and Cody may be gone. Ok so now you look at WR at the 22nd pick Bryant, Williams, and maybe LaFell are gone. So then what do you do just settle on DE, LB, CB, or RB??? The Everette Brown trade was not a bad trade, we ended up getting a Defensive End, which mean's we don't even have to cover that position in the draft this year.

That is just my 2 CENTS
