Also right now we only have the 2nd,3rd,4th 6th and 7th round picks. The 5th went to KC for Tank Tyler.

Incorrect. The 6th went for Louis Leonard.

The trade was fine. I would've been happy had we picked Brown in the first last year or this year. He's a football player. Given the growth of crappy players like Hilee Taylor after a year, an actual talent like Brown should physically mature very well this year.

The problem with the trade wasn't Brown. It was the contingencies and depth we have. We have four good ends - Brown is one. We use them all.

And clearly they wanted that insurance against Peppers. They still have it - they could easily let their franchise player walk or get traded and be fine at defensive end. They won't, IMO, but they could, and that decision isn't only in their hands.

if Brown turns into a 10+ sack type of guy next year, the FO will be hailed as genius.

if brown turns in a 10+ sack type of performance AND pep stays, carolina will have one of the most feared sets of defensive ends in the league, and the FO will be hailed as genius.

both scenarios are contingent on brown becoming an extremely good player... which i think he has that raw talent to do.

Also saved on not having to pay a salary in the over-compensated first round.

EB --> 1st round talent for 2nd round pay + year early.

agreed, we cant afford to pay for a top shelf rookie this year, or last year. our cap room is extremely tight.

Comparing Brown to all the DE's who got picked before him, and comparing the overall defensive effort and outlook from last year to this year, I'm not going to complain. It wasn't the kind of shot in the arm that most people had hoped for, but it can't be denied that something has changed for the better here and this move was part of that. Offense shows this same kind of improvement while the defense keeps this level of production up, we'll be good to go next year.

To make a long story short: quit yer bitchin'

For those football experts who think they can evaluate a draft after one season, how many tackles, sacks and plays did you expect him to make. He is 4th among DEs with 2.5 sacks and has 21 tackles. He was a second rounder who was admittedly somewhat of a project because he was undersized. He is right on target to do fine.

People who expect a rookie to come in particularly on the line and tear it up haven't been paying attention. There have been something like 2 DEs who have had more than 10 sacks their rookie year in the last decade.

Peppers, Anderson, and Williams in 2003. The next closest was Dumervil in 2006 with 8.5 and Jared Allen with 9 in 2003. There are other rookies with 10+ sacks but they play OLB not DE. Guys like Chris Long last year played every game and got 4 sacks. The year before Gaines Adams got 6 sacks. Given that Everette was only a rotational player, he is right on target.

Mathis who Brown is often compared to had 3.5 sacks his rookie year in 2002. The next year he had 10.5.

Unlike all that Jake smooching...:D...this makes perfect sense. Some of you just aren't being objective.

P-55, I tried to give you some rep, but apparently you're the last person I gave some to, so perhaps next time.
