Peppers w/long term contract or 1st rnd pick with cap space

What's the point of even having Brown/Johnson if you resign Peppers to a long term contract? Either the Panthers can bank on a 30 year old head case or they can go with their promising young guys who won't be anywhere near as costly.
Easy, because Brown/Johnson are nowhere near the player that Peppers is. In fact, I think keeping Peppers will ultimately help the development of Brown. With Peppers on the other end, Brown will never have to face double teams.

Exactly. Peppers is a better player than they can ever be. This does not mean they are bad, merely that Peppers is insane. It's not absolutely necessary to keep Peppers, but he can only help the team (as long as his contract is financially sound).

they "need" another good WR more than they "need" peppers.

I know, they just don't need Boldin, that's all. Hell, the player everyone is looking for might already be on the team (as others have said).

Boldin instantly makes our pass offense top 3.

It doesn't need to be in the top three, though. Top ten would obviously be great, but as long as the passing game is decent then the running game will pick up any slack and more.

Plus he can obviously be the successor to Smitty, which is another area no one seems to bring up.

considering he's 29 and Smith's 30..not much of a succession going on there..

Not really my point, With this cap we need to improve arguably are weakest position on the team.

oh...and why wouldn't it be possible to have two 1000 yard rushers and two 1000 yard receivers? highly improbable? yep. impossible...no.

we could have had it last year. moose was only 77 yards from 1000 and had stewart gotten a few more of williams carries or if williams had been hurt a game or two then stewart could have had it. he finished with 177 shy of 1000.

williams and stewart combined for 2351. smitty and moose combined for 2344....so yeah, i'd say it was pretty possible.

Right, but the gap between those players doesn't justify the crazy amount of money Peppers could want. While they may not be as good as Peppers I see them both as very capable DEs. You add Brayton in the mix and you've got a solid group even without Peppers. Use the money that would be spent on Peppers to find some quality WRs.

Also, Peppers is at his best as the RDE, moving him for the sake of Brown would not benefit the team that much.
