A decade is any 10 year period by definition. While it may be true that there was no year 0 AD, most people apply the term to describe the decade as in the example of the 60's (1960-1969), etc.

You could even say the first decade of this millennium is ending tonight.

HP- i THINK your thinking "century"...

A decade is a period of ten years, regardless of when the period starts.

Decades, on the other hand, start on the zero's, i.e. 1950s 1960s 1970s etc...

you would never say something that happened in the 60's belonged in the decade of the 70's....

a decade starts with 0 and goes 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-= 10 years.....

the new decade starts when the # flips; i.e.= 2010/2020/2030 ect...
