Over the past 10 years, the Superbowl winning coach was a RETREAD 7 out of the last 10 games. Those RETREADS really suck....please let's not get one of those. No way a RETREAD can breathe new life into an organization.

Great post!!!! I think a retread IS the best options for this current Panther team and its roster. There is no way I want a new guy/some cooridinator here to give his first try as a head coach with the Panthers.

What the Panthers needs IS a retread to take THIS roster and team to the next level. Similar to when Gruden replaced Dungy in Tampa.

Name a few head coaches that have made it to the super bowl with more than 1 team recently..

I can see you put a lot of thought into this......so you are basing your logic on historical statistics. In that case then, we should get rid of Matt Moore because no team has ever won a Superbowl with a QB from Oregon State. Why did Jerry Richardson bring a team to Charlotte because no team from Charlotte has ever won a Superbowl? We should rule out Leslie Frasier because only 1 African American HC has ever won the Superbowl. Do you see the flaw in your logic? Doesn't it make more sense to get the best coach available rather than rule people out just because they did a good job on another team?

There's not many of them..true that! Vermeil comes to mind, but 'recently' can be quite subjective. Reeves. Certainly Holmgren. Obviously, 'getting' to the SB and winning the SB are two different things here.

But just because a coach hasn't won with different teams does not mean it can't or won't happen eventually. There are quite a few coaching retreads who are still young enough to stoke the competitive fires. Whether any of them is a good fit for us is another matter. I still maintain that if retreads are to be considered, Cowher is the best fit here, in that, by virtue of him already living in NC, he'd be happiest with this opportunity. Dallass and Washington will bring a lot of baggage as far as dealing with meddlesome owners. I'd like to see Dungy here, but I believe he will stay retired. Chucky? Too psychotic (but he's growing on me as an announcer). Shanahan would bring an offensive mindset here, something sorely lacking too often. But he appears to be heading for DC. I'd JUMP at the chance to land Cowher..

Your whole first post was based on a historical premise.. you are talking out both sides man. You can use a historical stat but I can't? Interesting way to make an argument...

Not all retreads are created equal.

None of the retreads referenced here had won the Super Bowl with their prior team. Only one had even been to a Super Bowl (Vermeil).

Historically, nobody`s ever won it all with a second team after winning it with a first. There are, however, plenty of examples of guys who did okay with their first team and built on that success in their next job.

I'm not ruling anybody out retreads or new guys but I think there is an abundance of quality proven coaches out there this year. Historical stats can be used to prove what can be done because there is some basis to compare it too.....When you try to use historical stats to say "it will never happen because XY and Z has never happened before" it's too broad and random to prove your point.

If Vince Lombardi was alive you'd turn him away because "Coaches with a Superbowl appearance seldom do it with two teams." Would you not consider Bill Billichick if he was available?

This would be one of the most talented teams Cowher has ever coached if he came here. We would be a playoff team next year and he has the charisma/personality to make sure that the players don't have a game where they play "down to the competition."

Call me a homer but I feel like this team is similar to the Bucs a few years back....We have a good team that has gone about as far as it can go with the current coach. If we get the right guy to come in and take over - we can go all the way.

It doesn't make Fox a bad guy just like Dungy wasn't a bad guy when he left Tampa.....Fox like Dungy will probably have success somewhere else but the Panthers are too talented to be sitting home for the playoffs this year. We need a coach with enough wisdom to add to the Foundation that is already here - not tear it all down and start over. If it were my franchise....I'd want to give it to a coach with experience in dealing with veteran players and winning big games.

Don't get me wrong, of course a coach will win a super bowl with 2 different teams, but the odd's of it happening are small, as it has never happened before, and that was the basis of my historical comparison. We have the statistical data to show the odds of a coach winning super bowls with 2 different teams is slim, so why should we gamble against the odds?
