I think Fox is leaving

Matt Foley

I would think Meeks at least rates an interview. Don`t know if he`d get the job, though.

Dunno. I'd want to see Meeks keep a closer touch on the defense for at least another year. He's made leaps and bounds of progress this year, I want to see more of that (as opposed to the regressions we've all gotten used to) before he takes the big office.

If Fox leaves, what are the chances that the FO promotes from within? Due to all the talk of the uncapped year.
uncapped year won't be the issue for coaching changes...the thought of a locked out 2011 would be.

chances of them promoting from within? pretty high, imo.

think about this...if fox walks and they bring in a coach form the outside they will probably want to bring in their own coaching staff. not only will this cause a good bit of turmoil within the club, the panthers will have to pay for fox, the new HC, the staff going out and the staff coming in. panthers paying for 2 coaching staffs? not an attractive thing....especially when they will more than likely have obligations going through the 2011 locked out year.

you promote from within and consider 2010 as an audition for the long term coaching job and you save yourself a whole lot of money. this will be especially true if you make the requirement that they make do with most of the current staff.

my vote would be for ron meeks. DCs do better generally as HCs and he already has the admiration of most of the team. if he does a good job, give him the full time job. if not...you're only on the books for one year with no commitment to pay for 2011.

I agree. it's logical so it probably won't happen :D

Guys, Fox can't just "leave". He's under contract. I guess he could quit, but I don't see that happening.

If Richardson doesn't fire him, he'll be here next year unless some team stupidly offers a blockbuster Jon Gruden trade for him.

if he sees no job security here he could try to get it somewhere else. panthers stance is "i'm not going to fire you but i'm also not going to work to keep you around for longer."

you get the idea that you really aren't wanted. you want a little dignity...leave of your own accord. panthers are giving him that out.

about the blockbuster trade.....not allowed anymore.

If both sides want it, it can be arranged.

From what I understand though, Gruden type "coaches for picks" trades aren't allowed anymore.

This is funny, a few months ago people on here didn't want him as our defensive coordinator now your talking head coach.
i was thinking this when we started seeing what he was doing with the team. what i saw at training camp and what others saw during OTAs....instant respect. he was very hands on and commanded the respect of everyone.

i have to admit to doubting for a while when i saw the struggles the defense was having early on but since the guys got it i'm back on board with the idea.

true. i do think this is the best way to go from a business standpoint. we have a new president in town. from the sounds of it he knows what he's doing so there's hope.

I just hope what ever takes place it's as seamless as possible. We are playing good football right now. Would hate to shake it up too much.

I'm still straddling the fence on Fox. He does make me so damn mad at times, but I am not to thrilled about the idea of all the juggling of positions, and the rebuilding process it takes to get a smooth running operation again either. Change doesn't always mean for the better, but I guess you never know till you leap into the wind and just do it.

That usually takes time, and I want us good NOW, and forever. Maybe I'm just greedy and selfish. :(
