I think Fox is leaving

Except that a team has to offer him a head coaching job. He can't just decide he wants to be a head coach. Turner went back to being an OC between HC gigs. It's not unreasonable to think that Fox might have to do that if no one wants him...unless he now feels he's above that and is willing to be unemployed if no HC position is offered.

Turner stayed on the west coast and took jobs there because he wanted to be on the west coast for family. For 99% of coaches, life is moving for the best opportunity, not something random. Coaches with existing contracts don't just move to do it.

And, clearly he's not going to leave just to say "ahh, screw it, why not. I don't need $6 million, when I can go be a defensive coordinator somewhere?"

He's a lame duck coach next season with a lockout looking possible he will be on the street in 2011 with no salary. You think he will be ok with that? Nobody knows what will happen but I wouldn't be surprised if the Panthers let him look around and if he finds somewhere he wants to coach they would negotiate a buyout of his contract. But we will have to wait and see what happens because neither party will say it until after its done.

He's a lame duck, possibly. This is also his team until stated otherwise.

So, I don't think he'd take the $800k per year "security" of being a defensive coordinator over another year of $6 mil with this team. That's a step back in every way and no "security" at all.

Fox's Personality says different. He always plays it safe. Going into a year with no security dose not sound like him. His schedule is alot easier but if he bombs then he will be asked to leave with alot of uncertainty ahead.

I dont l think he would take a DC postition unless it was with the Giants and he is promised the HC in a few years. Im talking about taking a HC position. I will say this if he can get a gig that pays him atleast $3 mil and the panthers agree to pay him $3 mil next season he would be gone.

I see the hope for Fox being gone, is still hanging around.

With it still being regular season, I suppose that is understandable.

Just hate to see yall get your hopes up, just to have them dashed.

the worst of it is watching a team playing its heart out against great teams, to watch its fanbase worried about an offseason that will prove to be long and hard. In a few months we'll long to watch football again while most of the fans will have quit on a team that didn't.

The only problem I see with Fox is what has been discussed to no end around here. That is his resolve to stick with certain players when it clearly appears their better days are behind them.

I will not pretend I have the knowledge to be a NFL coach, but honestly I still don't understand the "Jake gives us the best chance to win" talk.

Then suck the following season.

Uh I hope that's not going to happen. Actually I thought our NFC South was amongst the toughest if not the toughest last season. I could see us all back there in 2010, with you guys doing so well right now and the Bucs finishing up with their rebuilding process....

In that situation there's still no reason to have him go. Carolina's not going to pay anything for a guy that won't be coaching, but isn't fired.

And no, he really won't go coach the Giants as a DC. Under Coughlin? Really? No way that works. And like I said he won't take a step back just to take a step. Guys who have major success at the head coaching level just don't go back to be coordinators. Martz and Turner are very specific exceptions.
