I think Fox is leaving

[The Question]

The only thing that might sway me in that direction is the seemingly lack of hands on control with our defensive scheme compared to prior years. With Meeks coming in and basically showing him up by succeeding and in a big way as of late. Fox might want to head to a team where they let him get his clappy little hands into every aspect of the defense and such. He seems to like control whether he's doing right or not. I'm apathetic as to if he stays or goes, just worried about who come's in or up from within. I wouldn't gawk at Meeks getting the promotion, I'd actually like it. He worked with the Tony "Zen" Dungy for quite a while and I'd enjoy seeing what an experienced understudy of his could do. Thoughts?

Has anyone thought if Fox might want to take the Cleveland job? I say this only b/c if you real think about it Cleveland just got Mike Holmgren. Cleveland is going to be good with all the draft picks they have and owner under pressure to sign good FA. I know they had a bad year and people think they will not ever be good, but I'm telling you Holmgren is already lineing up good people to work with him. I'm sure there will be players that will want to be part of it. just an idea.

Who knows, I think Holmgren and Fox would make a good team though. With that said if he does go I'm thinking it's to a team that's willing to give him a lot of control over the defense and the team in general, Holmgren would just take away from that with his walrus-like features and icy stare.

I know what you're saying, but what you're not taking into account is that there is a method to Foxspeak madness. He knows what the media is looking for and that's why he words everything the way he does. I'm not talking about "it is what it is." I'm talking "I don't have an MD after my name" or "there are several elements that make the passing game work and it's not fair to put it all on one individual". He's not going to give you anything you can run with. That's why "my agent handles that" is so alarming. Add to that the statement the Panthers gave to Chandler, not exactly a warm and fuzzy endorsement, and it seems like Fox and the Panthers are like that couple that both knows it is time to part ways, but no one wants to be the bad guy.

Just my opinion, based on reading between the lines.

there's no realistic reason for Fox to quit as a head coach to go be a DC.

As I have said before, Fox isn't going anywhere unfortunately next year. He is due $6 million bucks and he isn't going to walk away from that. The only way I see him leaving is if some team offers him some massive blockbuster deal. I don't see that happening with a lock-out that is going to happen in 2011. Even if Fox does leave, I doubt we will bring anyone on until the "lock-out" is resolved. Richardson has always wisely been careful with his money. I don't want Fox around any more than the next person, but this is a business decision, and a good one at that.

Prob True. He will prob be successful next year and get a extension. He has never had back to back winning seasons but always finds a way to get back to the Playoffs after a bad season.

I hate it that we are shutting down our opponents now that it is to late for it to matter. I am so pissed that Matt Moore has had to sit on the bench and watch Jake's 58 passer rating 18int-8td's sorry ass throw away games consistently. Anyone that says it is not ALL Jake's fault is dead wrong unless they want to use the argument that its the fools who let him on the field's fault.

Having a QB that can make the passing game a threat opens up our running game, keeps the defense well rested on the sidelines and raises overall moral. If Fox had manned up and made the right decision to bench Delhomme after the first 3 horrific games of the season I have no doubt we would not only be in the playoffs but be formidable Superbowl contenders. If Moore hasn't proven this I don't know what will.

I would definitely like to see fox and his staff back in 2010 because he has created an incredible NFL team and is only guilty of one incredibly stupid decision. However if Fox brings Jake back I hope he gets hit by a fuging bus.

Except that a team has to offer him a head coaching job. He can't just decide he wants to be a head coach. Turner went back to being an OC between HC gigs. It's not unreasonable to think that Fox might have to do that if no one wants him...unless he now feels he's above that and is willing to be unemployed if no HC position is offered.
