Correct it was 23’s 2nd, 24’s 1st, and 25’s 1st. The problem is we have way too many holes to sign Burns to the contract he desires. We would have been better off trading with the Rams, using that 2nd on an edge and having a 1st the next two years.

No we have plenty of cap space. we just being cheap who do we have thats under a big contract? moton? we arent paying anyone that is making money and our qb is on a rookie deal.

Again everybody loves picks until they turn into bad players. Jayce was a first... so was ickey.. the jury still out on them but, Burns is young... He was a foundational piece the team could build around. the guy instead of holding out for a contract like bosa he showed up to help the team anyway. I have never seen that.

He didnt get a sack today but the one gross got is because burns forced him up in the pocket. he has what 3.5 sacks hes fine.. well on his way to double digit sacks.

That's a different issue though, and one that is ultimately correctable. And again, Burns is the same player he's always been, a very good-to-great pass rusher that just isn't a significant difference-maker.

I mean thats fine to say. It could also be said he was at his best with reddick across from him to take some of the double teams away. That doesnt exist now. As far as Pass rusher pure speed pass rushers I would say hes top 3. He lacks a power move but being elite at anything is better than the panthers have right now.

We also would have gotten pick 36 that based on all the trades we saw at pick 32+ could have been traded up to grab someone like La Porta at TE or stay there and grab Musgrave. It would be nice to have one of the top TEs in this loaded class.

Also, based on their finish and trading away a ton of players, the Bears likely would have rather had the Rams picks. Maybe we don’t even need to throw in DJ Moore.

The haul for Burns was the Rams trying to see if the window was open. They got desperate because they were 3-3 and SF was 3-4 and got CMC.

Our 2023 season is done already so guess what, 2024 and 2025 first round picks are great values to us. They might be lesser to the teams making the trades but non-playoff teams rebuilding take advantage of that knowing that they aren’t there yet so it’s a longer time with a 1st round talent.

We screwed up not taking the trade for Burns and hell we still aren’t close to extending him and it’s looking like he’s not worth it so we fuged up. Simple as that. We should have been building up around Young (he’s our guy now).

This team wasn't in on tight ends it seems. we didnt even look their way before we traded they wanted to take another guard in the second. and then in the 3rd they passed on Washington for DJ Johnson who isnt even getting a jersey.

$30 million dollars for a pass rusher would take a huge chunk of that cap away. Extend Brown for less, sign a solid LB, pay a WR1 for Young to throw to, sign a NT, add depth to the OL and secondary. These are all things we have to do. Burns needs to be traded to a contender for some draft capital.

We arent paying currently. youngs nexr contract is years away if he is successful. This team has planned for years to sign burns so cap for that isnt the issue. Brown has been good this year but is he a pro bowler more valuable than burns? idk. and even his contract shouldn't be to bad. Brown doesn't have the stats to command top dt money.

If you want draft capital now thats a different conversation. but cap shouldnt stop you from signing burns when you have no one under significant contracts. I mean look at the saints..

We clearly thought we were a more complete team than we are. Switching to a 3-4 plus a whole new offensive scheme means we really have to retool our roster. Use that $30 million on several players plus get more players out of the draft picks. It’s nothing against Burns if we were making a playoff push I’d be ok with paying him but we have so many holes and positions that need upgrading.

    • KC has a very good defense this year. It is 5th overall. Yes, still worse than last year, but their offense is considerably worse. Their passing D may be their "weakness" but they still allow fewer than 20 ppg. BY completed several deep passes yesterday, and he was able to threaten downfield in ways he didn't seem capable of before the benching. I'm not necessarily worried about his ability to connect deep anymore. What to me was impressive was that he did all this without a run game. We used the pass to set up what little running success we had. Wild.
    • Solid and fair assessment.   I will say, one of the big things I noticed yesterday was that he wasn't shy to step up into the pocket in the face of pressure.  He's trusting the IOL.  And they took care of Chris Jones yesterday.  We had clean pockets but also good success rate vs. pressure which just hasn't been the case with Bryce.   If he has more confidence the OL gets it done and he can navigate and step up for throws, that's huge.  It's one of the biggest things that's held him back.  He was previously bailing quickly and just too easily throwing away or making dead plays.     He was finding his 2nd to 3rd reads within structure/without bailing in the pocket.  That was nice to see, as much concern I have with him.  And the overall limitations will always be there. Time to back it up this week against the Bucs.
    • Suddenly the Cowgirls look like our best chance for a win remaining. I think the Bucs are playing better than the Falcons of late.  Our lone game versus the dirty birds is in the ATL where we always struggle.  The Cardinals are marginally better than I thought they would be. We are not beating the Eagles, they are starting to roll. I'm saying two at most, next week at home versus the Bucs and the Cowgirls.
