Matt Moore one of the best throwing over 20 yards

I went thru the the highlights from games in 2007 the other night. IMO, one of most impressive throws Moore has made was a pass to Rosario in the Seattle game when he hit Dante in stride 20-25 yards down field. Hitting him in stride meant that Dante was able to turn it into a 50plus yard reception. It was a very strong throw, very accurate and show good touch and accuracy. There was also a pass to Carter in the Dallas game that was 40 plus yards in the air, thrown exactly on target and was only a miss because of a Dallas PI that wasn't called.

The guy has had arm strength all along, and I don't understand why people didn't see it. The main question IMO is his decision making under fire and how he reads defenses once they begin to react to his tendencies. Thats something we will find out if he continues to play.

but, but he didnt break his recievers fingers like lord favre. everyone knows that you cant be a good qb unless you throw bullets through your receivers into the endzone.

I don't think most people here are competent at evaluating subjective player traits like vision, arm strength, etc.

Let's see what Moore can do versus one of the worst pass defenses in the league (25th) giving up almost 250 yards a game. Not only that, but Darren Sharper is questionable and is arguably the ball-hawk of the secondary.

Not that I want the Panthers to lose, but I would like for us get behind early just to see what Moore is made of. If we can't come back via the passing game against the 25th ranked pass D, then Moore still needs to be examined further. However, if he can come back from two scores down in the second half I would say he should be a legit contender for the starting job next season and not just the normal coach-speak of training camp is an open competition by nature.

(looky...stats! I might get credit for a quality post now).

I don't understand "arm strength" as it is talked about in the NFL, Jamarcus Russel has a big arm yet he sucks.

When do you ever have the opportunity to really unload a 70 yard bomb?

Up until about 4-5 games ago 40+ yard bombs were not all that uncommon. For whatever reason that has become almost non-existent in favor of a short, high-percentage passing game. Dare I say almost West Coast Offense-esque.

So yes, if Fox and Davidson are here next season and they revert back to the Fox-ball type of passing attack (that in my eyes HAS changed), the QB needs to be able to deliver a ball accurately and DECISIVELY (with muster) down the field.

Moore reminds me of Philip Rivers in SD. I remember when Brees left SD there was talk about if Rivers really was going to be able to lead that team. Remember in 2005 before he took over he had a Passer Rating of 50%. Rivers completed 12 of 22 passing attempts for 115 yards with one interception and two fumbles. Just think what people would say about Moore if he had these stats this year in just two games?? I really think if you look at most QB's you are going to see most people unsure of them until they prove themselves. Moore should get the start next year as he has shown he is able to improve and not make the same mistakes over and over again. As for some of his throws not being on target sometimes, it seems more of timing to me. His timing well get better as he works more with the WR's this off season/TC.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
