Matt Moore one of the best throwing over 20 yards

Before I start, I'm not dissing Matt Moore, and I'm excited as hell seeing him starting and hope he starts next year. just thought I'd add my 2 cents on the strength thing.

Arm strength isn't always about just being able to throw the ball far. Tons can throw the ball far and have a receiver like Steve Smith adjust and grab it. It's about the touch and zip he can put on the deep ball. When he's lofting it up there, it gives defenders a chance to adjust the same way receivers can.

An example of a GREAT deep pass is that one to Moose last game. He put perfect touch and lofted it so Moose could have a chance to get to it. However, a couple of the long completions were because Smitty is an outstanding receiver and can adjust.

I can't wait to see what Moore can do over the off-season with consistent reps with the starting squad, a legit strength training program, work on his accuracy, etc. I love the guys potential and think he'll be great.

there is so many haters on this site..

yes the defense and special teams play better when you make a change at QB... when the team believe they can win, they do!

matt moore is NOT tested enough...is he doing a damn good job? Absolutely! should he continue to be the starter until someone better shows up? Absolutely! is he the future? no one will know until hes started 16 in a row....

THATS the bottom line.

matt moore is doing a great job. and he deserves where he is at right now. but you guys will be all over him the first time he throws an interception. just leave it alone and let it play out!

Passing for 171 yards is passing all over defesnes? Has he perked the team up? I don't and YOU don't know that. The team has played well and that has helped in MATT's success not vice-versa. That's the part that is making me scratch my head. Moore comes in and the special teams play better or defense all of a sudden can stop the run? This kid is magical!!!!

This board is viral, is someone says something strongly and continuously enough, most everyone starts to believe the premise whether it has merit or not.

I'll put it simply as why Matt should be the leading choice for starting next year:

Prior to Matt's takeover we had a -17 in the turnover column and were worst in the league. Since he was named starter we are now +3 in the turnover column and 13th in the league.

Defense is definitely playing harder since he's started. Seems like they knew that with Jake on the field they'd be back in 3 plays or less haha. Now they're #4 in takeaways and have something like 20+ in the past several games o_O

I guess the 7-1 td to int ratio has nothing to do with the fact that our defense is playing better. If you've already forgotten, Jake's last game was a 4 interception disaster. You're just talking out of your ass trying to find a reason to criticize those who see promise in Moore.

How many of those TDs are under 5 yards? That's what I thought. The defense was getting gashed in the first half of games, so you can't say they were tired. Also, the special teams couldn't tackle. I guess too much time on the sidelines limited thier tackling and blocking skills.

Crush away people. It's not for me to say who you all can crush on. I am reserving judgement until I see a NFL starting QB and I don't see that in Moore YET. He's a back up that has played well under near ideal conditions.

Yes Jake was making turnovers, but the defense was creating them either. Wow, so I guess the defense wasn't trying to strip the ball and the DBs were trying to intercept the ball until Moore started. The team probably had a mutany in locker room broke Jake's finger just so they could unleash all this potential that they REFUSED to display with Jake starting.

The poo is getting deep.

Agree, I have wanted to see Matt as the starter all season and Jake gone. But Matt's played less than half a season of football, let's give it some time before we put him in the HOF.

Agreed, though I think Jake should have been pulled at half-time of the Bills game (benched indefinitely). I doubt you seriously wanted Moore starting the season in September.

I don't know why anyone would say he has no arm strength. All of the reports out of college and since suggest that touch might be an issue but strength never was. He could sling it downfield with the best of them.

I have yet to see it consistantly. His long balls (wait for the flying tomatoes) look no different than Jake's. The are high-acring rainbows that the WRs have to turn and wait for. And no, he hasn't mastered the stop/fade, they are simply underthrown. Again, the Moose ball last game was his best to date and he had a clear lane to throw in.

Simply reserving judgement before I say with certainty whether I think Moore has or doesn't have what it takes to start in this league.

helps your defense when you dont have to start on a short field and you get rest easier to make to's when the opposition has to march 70-80 yards for a touchdown. versus 50-40 yards.

Between all the off season crap and then preseason I felt we were primed for a bad season. So actually I did want to see what more could do from the start. I knew he good do as good as Jake if not better. For once I was right, it's rare but sometimes.

Lets see how long his Touchdown passes have been.

  • 42 Yard to S. Smith
  • 41 Yard to S. Smith
  • 27 Yard to S. Smith
  • 22 Yard to Moose
  • 2 Yard to J. Stewart
  • 2 Yard to J. King
  • 1 B. Hoover

The majority of his touchdown passes have been greater than 20 yards. Its clear that he can throw TDs both inside and outside of the redzone. You are just making stuff up at this point. You should really make an attempt to think before you write something. I'm tired of responding to your poorly thought out posts.

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
