Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

Quarterback isn't the same position as running back. Deshaun never had good years either, Jake did. And we didn't owe Deshaun 13 million dollars either way. The situations are not close in comparison.

Who cares with Jake had a good statistical season years ago, he always been average to everybody except Hurney, Fox, and his legions on here. 13 million dollars for a "at-his-best" average QB whose better days are far behind him should be justification to get Hurney and Fox axed rather than continue to play a guy whose hurting your team, that is if winning was your primary goal.

Delhommes best games were always when Smith wasn't playing. His best game the last 2 years was San Diego last season. Steve Smith has spoiled him as a player and I think Jake has developed into a lazy QB. His ability to read defenses is often on or off. We should have kept someone to push him all the years then maybe he wouldn't be fading so fast.

Who said that Williams was "horrific"? He just wasn't ready to start back then, that's all...he still played a lot even as a back up, just like Jonathan Stewart is playing a lot as a "back up".

Williams took it upon himself to work out harder and to learn his play book inside and out after the 07 season (which has been very well documented), and it showed in 08. So he didn't just get better overnight for no reason, and John Fox didn't just sit him on the bench in 07 to piss you off. This is not complicated stuff here.

ok, again...you don't go from "not being good enough to start" to "arguably the best RB in the league" overnight. Working out in the offseason and being focused also doesn't justify that big of a change your are suggesting occured. Fox is flawed....some people refuse to acknowledge his flaws.

Williams was never given the opportunity Stewart was. As a rookie Stewart got 184 carries despite playing behind a clearly better RB in 2008. In 2007 Williams was the better RB and only managed 144.

Williams was better than Foster in 07

Moore was better than Vinny in 07

Moore was better than Jake in 09

all were pretty obvious to even a casual fan...stubborn Fox refused to make the move early enough for any of the moves to matter.

All Gantt is saying, is that Moore should have some competition before we anoint him as the chosen one, and that Jake deserves the chance to compete in TC instead of being cut right after the season just because fans are pissed off. Why are some of you getting an ulcer over this?

why does an older guy who has shown for 2 seasons that he isn't the same guy post Tommy John deserve another season? Regarless of stats, Jake clearly has gotten worse and worse the longer he plays post Tommy John. Maybe it was the surgery and or maybe that just happened to mark the time when he was going to naturally go downhill........but Jake has already been given 2 seasons and despite his stats and the Panthers record (in 08) it was clear last year he had taken a step for the worst.

Give Moore competition. A legit rookie and a legit vet not named Jake. Jake is a waste of a spot and a lack of competition.

Why would you do that when we don't have to make a decision to cut him until at least final roster cuts in August. That way he has a chance to see what he can do in camp and the preseason and we can decide whether he is done or not.

The only reason to release him is to ease the fear of fans who think he might be back at some point and start.

After what he has done over the past 7 years, he deserves better.

What is with this "he deserves better" the only thing a player derverves is the contract a team is willing to pay them, The NFL is a business and if you wanna be successful winning should be each teams objective every year.

Did Joe Montana deserve better when it was obvious Steve Young was the better QB at that point in their careers? Did Steve Mcnair deserve better when he was locked out of the Titans facilities? Did Trent Dilfer deserve better getting release after actually winning a SuperBowl?

This is a win now league the window is only open so long, if you're not getting better then your getting worse. Let's get sentimental after the Superbowl, not after your aging QB with the rebuilt arm has had the worst performance in playoff history and you then sign him to an outragious deal.

WHY, he's had his chance he was never great to start with and now.

If this was Dallas, Philly, New York, local and national media would be all over this qb problem. They would say something has to be done....problems in big D what are they going to do. But here we have to play nice nice.

The deserves better line slays me. We gave Jake every possible opportunity this year to get things turned around despite wretched play for a majority of the season, didn't even remove him as the starting quarterback until injury. We gave him a lot of money over the past seven years, I don't know how one couldn't argue that he wasn't well compensated. We will be giving the guy a lot of money next year regardless of whether he's here or not....yet he deserves better. Wow.

So answer the post this time instead of going down bunny trails.

You take one line in a post and go all over the place missing the point completely. This isn't about who the starter should be or anything else you mentioned. Sounded almost like the speech from Animal House. Very inspiring.
