Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

Well, what's so unreasonable about giving Delhomme a chance to redeem himself? They can do that and still give Matt Moore the chance to win the starting job again next year, and they can still draft another QB for competition if they want to. If Delhomme is still having the same problems, then they can still cut him before the season starts. What's so tragic about this notion?

Fox couldn't see the problem in practice all year. Hence the phrase that we all love...

Why would that change?

Even if Jake's NFL days are not completely over and he experiences a Kurt Warner like rejuvination, he is 34 years old, and its time to start grooming a replacement. Past time actually. If not Matt Moore, then someone. We have to pay Delhomme a ton of money next year, so I see a point in keeping him on the roster, even if its as a third string qb. But Moore is younger, has a better arm and better mobility. That alone should give him a better than even chance at being the starter next year.

Obviously given the tone of the responses, my view as usual lately will be unpopular but that hasn't stopped me yet so here goes.

Gantt is right on several points. First of all Moore has done this before. In 2007 he looked great for 3 games but the following camp and preseason he seemed to regress. And as he noted even this fall he really didn't do anything to show he had this kind of talent.

Secondly every one has bashed Fox because he picks a starter at quarterback before the season starts and doesn't allow an open competition. Gantt is simply saying that we should open things up and allow that to happen in 2010. Seems the same people bitching before about a lack of competition, now want to make sure he picks Moore right now instead of have a competition since they now have their guy instead of Delhomme.

He mentions that Jake was good longer than he was bad. True

He mentions that Moore had 5 good quarters and 11 okay quarters. True

He mentions that we need to wait since for example their is nor rush to make a decision or do anything with Jake for example. True

And seriously the slant in the responses is ridiculous. A known loser versus an unknown= insanity. How about a more realistic comparison. The most successful quarterback we have had who took us to an 12-4 record last year who mysteriously suddenly loses it versus a guy who ran the team successfully for 3 games in 2007 but hasn't looked the same since. Not insanity to go with the known.

Tiptoeing arond Jake? Maybe so but it makes sense to not throw him away when a decision doesn't have to made right now and you will pay him whether he sits the bench or the couch. Only someone with an agenda would still want to get rid of Jake under our circumstances instead of a more calm rational approach which accounts for the realities of the situation.

Seems to me he is cautioning against too much Moore mania that we put all our eggs in one basket. Seems prudent to see what he can sustain. So far he has looked good the last 2 games. But the season is 16 games long and takes its toll. He hasn't shown he can hold up without injuries that long or that he can be consistent. Surely he should be the leading guy going into camp next year, he has earned that. But I don't want the job handed to him unless he shows next year he gives us the best chance to win like he does right now.

Because Matt Moore has played some real games and did well. Fox is not an idiot, he puts plenty of value on what guys do when it matters. Still though, unlike most fans, he also knows that it's a completely different prospect to be the starting QB from the beginning of the season and have the pressure to win every week, as opposed to being everybody's favorite back up who is playing with no pressure and is still in the "honeymoon" phase of his career. Most of y'all loved Delhomme when he was at that point too, but look at you now.

BTW, we have no idea what's going to happen with Delhomme yet anyway, so why get all bent out of shape over a beat writers opinion?

I think you are right. As I see it Moore is his replacement and it is surely welcome. We hung onto him for 3 years and finally we have someone who is working out after so many guys have flamed out.

You are right we need to keep Delhomme as long as we are locked into huge payments. At this point if Moore is the answer, he will start. For every example we have of Fox hanging with a vet "too long" there is a case where he has started a rookie over a veteran. Fox is loyal but he is far from stupid. People forget that even if Jake started next year it wouldn't be a repeat of this year. His leash would be very short and Moore's success doesn't make him the unknown anymore. if Jake came out and started and played poorly he could be replaced at halftime the first game just like Peete was when he came in.

I think Moore will start anyway but I am not worried that we would repeat this year's mistake which is why I agree with you.

Nevermind the fact that DeAngelo Williams himself admitted that he wasn't ready to start yet during that period.

 guys playing under Fox say a lot of things.....things that just happen to fall in line with what Fox is saying. Even Dan said in another thread Fox literally has his hand on EVERY single aspect of this team (and that was not implied as a good thing)....and that imo includes what guys share with the media.

This guy has officially jumped shark as a objective reporter, a mere puppet now.

Gantt it's ok to admit you have a problem, the quarterback you know as Jake Delhomme is done ok; I know the water is cool and refreshing but please get out of that river in Egypt. Moore has totally out played your boy this season even the hard core "Jakers" can't deny that, we actually have something that resembles a passing game this season and even though we now have a boat load of injuries we're a much better team with Moore at the helm than when Delhomme TD passes were going to the other team.

If Moore isn't the starter going into next season ownership needs to know that it won't only be Peppers who wants to bolt a good chunck of fans will too, pending the inevetible disaster season.

agreed . I bet it the same across the league. You will never get the truth in a soundbite or interview. Guys who complain get in trouble but that happens in every business. Most busineeses even prohibit employees from talking to the media. You have to direct it to a media specialist.

Darin the delusional has had his strings pulled for years now. He is, was, and will always be the very definition of the word "joke".

He will go as far as to put down Matt Moore's accomplishments as he has to repeated callers on the PacMan show in order to make a case for his pal Jake.

I look forward to the day douchebag-Darin is fired.
