Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

For my part, I don`t buy that the local guys are tiptoeing around Jake. = could see that if there was a uniform message, but there really isn`t.

At the Observer, Chandler is pretty matter of fact. He leaves the opinion stuff to Fowler and Sorensen, and those two rarely agree. I know Fowler was in favor of starting Moore weeks ago. Sorenson I don`t recall.

Reed`s belief is probably the closest to general fan sentiment. He said on radio he`d favor Moore starting but believes Delhomme might stick as a backup. As far as opinion, he`s more of a Fox apologist than a Delhomme booster.

And then there`s Gantt. If anyone qualifies as a Delhomme apologist at this point, it would have to be Gantt. He still believes not only that Delhomme could regain his starting role, but believes he should be given the chance.

Now, is he saying that because it`s the company line? I doubt it. Panthers.com is now talking up Matt Moore and acknowledging Delhomme`s issues. It seems to me that the Panthers , while still mindful of Delhommels contributions, are preparing to move on.

That tells me that Gantt`s opinion is likely just that.

For my part, I think Chandler has the best approach (report the facts, don`t be overly opinionated) but Gantt is a radio guy as well as a newspaper reporter. That may somewhat explain why he`s more opinionated Reed too) but I think he actually believes what he says.

He just happens to be wrong (in my opinion).

he was throwing to 2nd teamers at best the majority of the time. most of the guys he was throwing to aren't even in the league. with the exception of a little while in the 1st preseason game, ............

missed passes to jarrett (5), taylor (5), thompson (1), and barnidge (1 on the play that moore got injured on)

Wow you must be avoiding work. LOL

If you went all that way to say that he would have been effective with the firsts versus the thirds on offense, it begs the question how much worse could he have been going against the ist string defense instead of the scrubs as well. You would have to rely on dropped passes versus poorly thrown etc to see if the quality of the receiver would have mattered. And in the end it is all speculation. he did what he did, and all the excuses won't reveal the reality that he did regress in ststs regardless of how you want to paint it. You can make all the excuses in the world but it is what it is.

And looking at it today, what does it matter. It is a shame we

are wasting our time debating about useless preseason games from the 2008 season instead of lspeculating on who our first round opponent will be in the playoffs.

Sad state of affairs if you ask me.

you want to know how he does throwing to first team players against good defenses? check the starts he's had in '07 and '09. compare that to what he did in those preseason games throwing to scrubs....

Listen that makes no sense because you are clearly just going down "rabbit trails".

And by the same token 2009 is almost over. If the distant past of a year ago (2008) is irrelevant than so is his performance this year an indicator of what next year will be. You are assuming he is finished but have no evidence yet but the recent past. Still the past is the past. He wouldn't be the first guy to need 2 years to get over major surgery and struggle in between. He may be done for sure but that is what next season is for, to find out in July and August and then make a decision. At this point it isn't even a roster spot.

This is the worst post I've ever read from you, panthers55.
