Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

Just for the record, after Jake came in the Jacksonville game, I was ready to crown him the starter of this team.

I've really enjoyed having Jake as our QB, and he's brought us some great memories as Panther fans. Even though we haven't won the Super Bowl, he did something that year that nobody else could. He was good, and lucky, and basically put us through the Disney movie season. I'm thankful for that.

After Arizona, I wasn't ready to ditch him. I defended him all Summer long, about how it was just one game and how Jake will be fine. But I was wrong. I was wrong about Jake and now it's obvious he needs to be let go.

Moore may not be the long term answer, but he at least deserves a shot at starting next season. And I mean a legitimate shot. After what he's done in his starts this season, that's enough for me to say "Let's see what this guy can do."

We're desperate for a starting QB, just like we were when Rodney Peete was our QB. He was awful. Now, it's Jake's turn. He's awful, and he needs to be replaced. If you're afraid of change, that's fine, but at this point it's beyond ridiculous.

Welcome to last month. Who is debating about Moore getting a shot to start next year? All I hear is how Jake shouldn't get one no matter what, everyone believes Jake would win the competition. As if he wouldn't be on a tight leash. Fox has shown that if he thinks he has a better option he will use it. He just needs to see that it is better. Surely Moore has surprised everyone including the coaches. They will surely reward saving their butts with letting him compete for starter. In fact he should have the decided inside track. It is up to Moore to work hard all offseason to improve to the point where is clearly an upgrade in film and practice as he is in the game. Then there would be no question.

Fox is loyal but he isn't stupid.

Have you noticed? The local beat writers are doing their best to walk a tightrope and not say anything discouraging against Jake. Wonder why?

Example: http://www.heraldonline.com/news/sports/story/1834649.html

Gantt is retarded

Last year, with no real need to extend Jake, it was "Oh they really need to because they need to make it clear that he is the guy to throw on this team, they need to do it"<----This was after that piss poor playoff game.

now, Moore is playing lights out, he's doing all the right things, saying all the right things, and his stance is "well they shouldn't anoint him just yet." <----Why? Because he knows how to throw a fuging accurate pass over 5 yards?

You know why he hasn't "led a comeback yet?" Darin? Because he doesn't just complete 50% of his passes for 90 yards in the first 3 quarters that he needs to collect himself in the 4th quarter and win the game at the last minute.

I've never seen such a big fuging spectacle made out of benching an average QB with a rapidly diminishing skill set.

He must be good Fox had him as #2 this season! So you would be comfortable with Moore, Jake and a rookie?

Moore, Jake, A rookie, maybe Cantwell, another cheap free agent, maybe another UDFA. Why is it limited to three? With no cap we can have 6 or 7 quarterbacks come to camp if we want.

Lets see where the chips fall.

Yes, it can be open. That implies Jake isn't on the roster. Everyone wants a legit competition with QBs that can possibly help this team. Delhomme is done and him being on the roster is what will make it not a legit open competition.

the more and more you post....the more and more I think you are friends with someone we bash to some degree.....and that would explain why you always add in the "from what I am hearing".

I have no insider info and have always maintained that. And again getting rid of Jake is plain poor logic and obviously emotionally driven. Nothing will change that so there is no need debating it.

Fox has also shown to be very loyal to starters. Why shouldnt we fear him giving Jake the starting gig. I believe in open compitition all around every year but it doesnt happen and never will.

Because the circumstances surrounding 2010 are different than every year since Jake came here. Fox will be a short leash himself and won't wait to make a move if he needs to. You guy need to trust that Moore is the real thing and will win the competition. Fox won't turn it over the Jake outright. Fox is loyal but with this much riding at stake, he isn't stupid.

I didn't say you had insider info....I said I think you must be friends with someone directly related to Carolina (and the bashing) and that is why you post in the manner you do.

Getting rid of Jake is smart logic....if you keep Fox. Keeping him is emotional and not accepting what Jake is now. Carolina has to admit the money was a mistake and take one of the chin.....not doing so hurts the team worse.

No, it is the only comparison you have to say something negative about Moore.

It was the facts. If they are negative, it surely isn't something I contrived. I answered the question. If it was someone else besides me you wouldn't go at them as hard.

Take a break with the obsessions.

Cutting Delhomme is like when we cut Foster, Wahle, and Rucker except we owe Delhomme an ass of money. They clearly weren't cutting it and played a year longer than they should have. Delhomme is the same way...

Cutting Delhomme will appease much of the fanbase and force Fox to properly evaluate the QB position. Win-Win IMO.

Agreed makes no sense. It's like a bunch of zombie panther fans walking around chanting Jake Jake Jake...

it's really fuging ridiculous. It takes Jake being one of the worst QBs in the league and Matt Moore performing among the best, with both offensive tackles on IR just to stir up a controversy.

How is getting rid of someone who are paying anyway months before a decision is even needed a smart logical decision.

Lets hear some more of you emotionally laden criticisms of Jake packaged as a logical debate.

Paying was a mistake but throwing him away at this point just compounds the error.

If that's the route we are going to take then it'll require a longer TC than normal. There are only so many snaps per day with first team one can get and as witnessed by Peyton's WR/QB minicamp before this season, building chemistry between QB and WR is HUGE. It should be between 3-4 players AT MOST, and Jake should not be one of them.

As for the way writers are handling Jake right now, I think it's just being respectful of someone whose career is clearly over, they don't want to piss all over someone who has given everything they had to this franchise just because of one bad season.
