Local writers tip toeing around Jake...

So it is fair not to open up the quarterback competition in 2010 but it was unfair and shows how terrible Fox is when he didn't open it up in the past with Moore. What a hypocritical stance.

jake has been on the decline since 2006. He no longer deserves the right to have the starting job handed to him like it was this year. Matt moore has earned the right to be the starter next year and anyone who can't see that is under the same spell john fox put on darrin gannt

In the 2008 preseason, he finished 35 out of 65 for 53.8% completion rate for a paltry 6 yards per attempt with 0 TDs and 3 Ints for a rating of 52.7.

What is there to collaborate?

and some of the guys he played with are bagging groceries now......bottom line is when Moore starts and plays with legit NFL starters he is fairly decent and we knew that prior to this season.

Maybe you could post the numbers for Jake Delhomme playing with a great offense around him during the preseason for a comparison? But.....I think we both know what those are w/o you doing so.....

I didnt say that. I would like to see competition between Moore and McCown just not Jake. With Jake on the roster we wont draft a QB and right now I would prefer another QB to groom for the future. Im not sold on Moore at the moment. Jake 2.0 is not what I want.

Jake doesn't need to be here. It's over. If you can't see that, then there is no hope for you. I'm sorry.

Jake is awful and he is done. Moore is good enough to help this team win, and not force it into a loss (as Jake has done many times this season and last).

He's done great things for this team, but when a mediocre QB is getting up there in age and has clearly lost several steps, it's time to let go.

It's time for the franchise to move on. Jake has no value as a mentor, or a coach. What's he going to tell Moore? "Just chuck it up there man, Smitty'll get it and save you!"

Because that's all Jake does... ever... he's just not good enough/lucky enough to make it work anymore, and I'm tired of watching him fail.

Jake has 0 value to this football team.

You say that Jake doesn't deserve the right to have the job handed to him but Matt Moore has earned the right.

So are you advocating the job be handed to the best guy based on the previous year's performance or won in camp and the preseason based on current performance. From your statement it appears to be the former. Weren't you one of those criticizing Fox for being loyal and not making positions open to the best player. Seems you flip flopped on this one.

I think everyone wants an open competition......just one that Jake is not involved in it. There is no such thing as open competition with Jake involved.

just like this year when Fox twice he might make a change but that what occured in practice would determine who would start the following week. That was a lie....as he never intended to give the other QB a look.....and both times annouced Jake as the start prior to a snap at practice given to Moore for consideration.

the guys at the Observer have commented before that before writing stuff that could upset Carolina.

Never came across that before, seems like a bad idea for them to admit being a tainted source of news.

Plus, to think Carolina doesn't do what ever they can to gain leverage to control the local media is just silly.....basic common sense tells you it happens.

I agree it is possible but not as certain as everyone here acts like it is.

I'll try to find it....Pat or one of the current guys commented recently that they got a scoop on something and wanted to go public.....but they went and talked to Carolina about doing so......they then said there reasoning for going public was b/c it was going to be picked up by someone and that was there reasoning behind doing it.

Again what does this have to do with Jake. You seem obsessed with him. This was about the 2008 preseason and if there was some collaboration about him declining from the previous year. I supplied the stats which is pretty good collaboration. And you go off in left field on another hate Jake bunny trail. Seriously, lighten up.

McCown has more baggage and issues than Jake. He won't be here next year from what I am hearing.

Matt may or may not be the answer but Jake 2.0 he's not.

Who cares what Jake did 6 years ago? He sucks NOW. As John Fox once said, "this is a what have you done for me lately league."

All of what Jake has done in the past is moot. He's proven on a number of occasions that he is incapable of even being a marginal QB anymore. End of story. I hate it. I like Delhomme. I wish he was decent -- but he's not. I also wish Joe Montana and Dan Marino could still play -- but they can't.

They used to be great, but they aren't now -- and that is the point.

No, it is not a good collaboration. You are saying that since Moore played worse with scrubs vs. how he looks when he plays with 1st stringers it means something.

Peyton Freaking Manning would show a decline in preseason also if he only played w/ the 2nd unit compared to his prior season.
