Here's an incredible John Fox stat

My biggest pet peeve on the Huddle is when people don't read important posts earlier in the thread. Please read my post that broke down the seven teams. One was a weak opponent, two were resting starters, four were at .500 or better and were fighting for either playoff berths or higher playoff seeds.

I was posting/looking up the stats as you posted so did not see them. I certainly wasn't ignoring the post.

And I just LOVE how I include all wins and losses and all teams no matter their record and no matter whether it helps my argument or not, yet you excused away game after game after game for whatever ludicrous reason you wished.

I posted only to illustrate that those "meaningless" games are all easily explained so am not really sure what you mean by excusing game after game and ludicrous reason??

I'm just trying to figure out why he's Vince Lombardi when it doesn't matter and Gary Kubiak when it does.

Again, it's simple: 2 games had weak opponents; 1 game had the opponent resting starters; 1 game was against an opponent who lost 4 of their last 5 games- the Panthers just happened to be one of the 4 that beat them and with NO, they did have a winning record but the Panthers beat them 4 straight times so it wasn't anything unusual. And this year can be explained with a new QB who probably would not be playing if not for Jake's broken finger.

So really, what is so hard to figure out? It's not like they were beating the Patriots, Colts or Eagles.

I think you're confused. I'm pretty sure I haven't criticized Fox at all for winning all seven meaningless games. I'm just trying to figure out why he's Vince Lombardi when it doesn't matter and Gary Kubiak when it does.

You started this thread by saying, "... Let there be no doubt: John Fox is an absolutely average coach in every way that is a MASTER at getting his guys to play hard in games that are glorified preseason games."

And that is not negative criticism?

And then knocking off 4 of 7 teams that are contending for the playoffs are "glorified preseason games?"

You are hopeless and may never know happiness.

First off, your "reasons" are laughably wrong.

A 7-7 '06 Atlanta team fighting for their playoff lives was a great win. They were not a crappy team.

Your excuse for beating the Saints in '02 is also extremely flimsy. Had we beaten them four straight times back in 2002? No? Then what difference does that make? How would it make a difference anyway? Beating a good team is a quality win, no matter how many times you had beaten that team in a row.

6 of the 7 teams were at .500 or better. 4 of the 7 had every motivation in the world to beat us. 2 others were still good, playoff-bound teams. Let's also not forget that the Panthers are never at full strength either late in the season and were playing without several starters themselves throughout these 7 wins.

But here's the big point: The Panthers play bad teams or teams missing a lot of starters on a regular basis before being eliminated from the playoffs and yet don't have a perfect 7-0 record against those teams like they do post-elimination. In fact, it would be interesting to see Fox's record against teams with a sub .500 record as opposed to those at .500 or better.

There are always excuses as to why a team beat another. For the Panthers to have gone 7-0 in meaningless games under John Fox no matter who the opponent or what their situation was tells me that something changes with the coaching staff or the players in these meaningless games that I wish could happen earlier in the season.

Had he been 0-7 in the meaningless game category, would you bitch and moan about that also? It sounds to me like he is damned either way. I'm not trying to single you out or anything, but it just seems pointless to complain about. If anything he should be praised for not throwing in the towel.

I'm just trying to figure out WHY the difference in winning percentage. Is it as simple as Fox shedding his conservatism when he's not worried about having to win? If so, then, uh, why doesn't he just do that when it DOES matter if he's found a winning formula?

Why am I the enemy for finding a very interesting stat and trying to figure out the reasons behind it?
