WTF happened during the bye several weeks ago ?

You all know I have been harping on the statement about the D putting in some new "packages". Since the buy really the only package I have seen is the Panthers kicking me in mine while giving up way too many points. Watching the secondary literally feels like someone kicking me in the balls.

In the NY game, the scheme appeared to be (It's hard to believe) to allow the 5 yard pass, hope for an incompletion, and sellout completely to the stop the run. Considering we were beat-up a little missing Kemo, and later Lewis I understand, somewhat, the selling out to stop the run, but not the basically allowing a 5 yard pass.

Today, we start off strong, sending blitzes, and all that jazz. Then some magical evil ghost takes over the defense and we go into suck mode for a half.

Anyone else seeing what I see here ?

Same thing that happened in 06. Grab a nice lead, then piss it all away on defense. Difference is, now our offense can score so we can overcome it more. Allowing 21 points in the 4th quarter is not good defense at all. They must buckle down and prepare for the playoff game, because every team we face from here on out is not going to have as porous a defense or as weak a running game as the Saints do.

It's crunch time now, and the Defense needs to get their poo together, otherwise, playoffs are going to end ugly for us.

I'm going with they've faced 6 top 15 offences.

I hate to do it but to quote Fox the other team wants to win too. The D played well at home and struggled a little against the Falcons (6th ranked O) Giants (7th ranked) and Saints (1st) on the road while being a little beat up, it doesn't concern me.

They'll be fine if they're healthy in a couple of weeks.

I'm glad you looked that up.:piggy:

How does that compare to the teams we faced in the first half of the season ?

Two of those teams you mentioned are in the playoffs. So is Arizona, and Philly.

This defense will need to learn how to shut down those offenses in order to survive now.

Yes they are but they weren't able to stop us either, they could have won in either ATL, or NY with a play or two going our way.

Oh and only one more road game at worst the D is much better at home.

They all need to stop focusing so hard on trying for a strip that they whiff on their tackles. Wrap your man up and let the second guy come in for the strip! How many people noticed Marshall trying one arm tackles, pawing at the ball with the other and the runner getting another 5 yards? Ridiculous.

We did what we had to do 1st half/Mid 3rd quarter

Offense, defense, special teams just collapsed

And I'll add the D was the last to fall, they were gassed. Missing two out of the D-line rotation going against the best O in the league, it would have been a valiant effort if they had held, but they didn't.

You're not alone.

I'm actually overall not too upset given that they were playing without both starting DTs. Noticed they pulled a lot more in the way of line stunts to compensate this week, used Peppers to pressure inside a fair amount.

My biggest problem with our approach (bend don't break) is that it lends to fatigue and late game breakdowns. I can only hope they tighten up in the playoffs.
