Curious to all the Fox hate.. ?

Ok...some good responses...with the inevitable flames from the gallery. pstall trying to be clever, Rayzor saying I should read every hate riddled flame to get my answers...

No winning, back to back record:

GOOD reason - I think it has to be mitigated by injuries but I will buy that it is very frustrating. I dont know if wanting to fire Fox because he loses one season and than not giving him credit when he has a good season is fair. I dont know if its enough reason to fire him - if he was a putz sure.

Too conservative:

hmmm, I agree the play calling has been conservative - but when our attack plan is smashmouth football and we are running the ball, that dictates the conservative stuff. It also is a big credit to our defense to holding the offense when in short yardage situations or putting up a ball on 3rd and long that might be interecepted. I LIKE playing to our strength. I WISH he wouldnt be 'so' conservative but enough to fire him?

Losing to the Bills:

It sucks, but every team in the NFL can play well...or bad. Any given sunday. Saints lost to the Buc's! Fire their coach omg! YES..it sucked but its not a good reason.

Also from Acewalker:

'plenty of coordinators or coaches that could have produced..." maybe...probably if they pulled Jake.

Wall grew UP here, Cowher didnt....yeah, there is a 'hook' for him here but it sure isnt saying he would.

The Peppers handling was great- but as I understand it there wasnt a LOT we could do. We couldnt trade him cause he didnt sign the stupid thing...our hands were tied unless we let him walk with nothing in return - how can that be 'good football' for anybody?

And than the rest seem to all be for holding on to Jake so long.

1. Holding on to Jake as starter

2. Conservative

3. No winning back to back record

Is that it? Did I miss anything? THESE are the reason to throw him back and hope we get a better coach? YES...#1 turned out to be a mistake. Giving Jake second/third/fourth...etc chances is OK in my book for what he has done for us and the kind of guy he is. #2 is just style...im fine for the way Panthers play ball. We take out spleens. #3? TWELVE guys on IR...it friggin sucks and stinks of bad luck, but I wouldn't say its the coach.

my problem with fox is he is too loyal, reactive instead of proactive, and is just to damn secretive.

As a fan, I want a coach to be upfront and honest about poo..

I completely agree...I want a coach who'll give the other team a competitive advantage instead of ours. Hey - want to know something? We'll tell you!

I also want one of those hotheads everyone wants that fires everyone up for a year or so and then ends up on Coors commercials for saying something completely retarded. Denny Green said exactly what AZ fans were thinking, and we know that made him a better coach.

Notice a pattern here?

And no-

I like fox and would like to keep him if he would not be so stubborn

I'll add in the fact that that's only 3 playoff berths in 8 tries. Which looks worse when you consider this is the NFC, and two years that the Panthers missed the playoffs 8-8 and some favorable tie breakers could've gotten you a wildcard berth.

There are 2 coaches in the NFC that have been with the same team as long or longer than the change to the current divisional breakdown. One is John Fox. The other, Andy Reid, coaches in Philadelphia, in a tougher city, in a much more competitive division, and his team has only missed the playoffs twice since 2002, and only finished under .500 once.

One starter was on IR during the beginning of the season, when we went 0-3.

don't act like we didn't suck before everyone started getting hurt.

Good point! I was trying to say that we have suffered huge significant injuries...much like other years when we did bad.

We didnt just have Jake's complete suckiness this year, the defense had to adjust a WHOLE new scheme.

I am not making excuses for Fox, but it seems like so many are wanting to burn the guy for insipid reasons.

it wasn't really a system thing defensive wise as it was losing contain in the run, overpursuit and missed tackles, like we have seen plenty of since 2006.

And the "scheme" wasn't like switching to a 3-4. We've run plenty of tampa 2 packages in our defense before Meeks came in. Tampa 2 is actually a cover 3 defense, which we ran with Trgovac however the zones are different. And anyway, it's probably more simplified and easier to learn than Trgovac's yellowbook sized playbook.
