What makes fox a good coach

I mentioned in the Fire Bill Cowher thread something pertaining to this topic:

Fox believe it or not still has room to improve his coaching abilities. The level of patience this day in age is ridiculous. I know mostly everybody is tired of mediocrity and personally I wouldn't mind at all to see Fox go, but he still has the potential to be a top NFL coach and get a ring. He is a couple habitual and attitude adjustments away from this goal imo. He definitely has learned through Moore some lessons about stubbornness. He's not a complete fool to understand these things.

cheers. :)

He does but the main problems right now with Fox is loyalty and not going for the kill in football games. When we get up by 10 points he goes into conservative mode. Great thing about the Giants game we didnt let off the throttle until the middle of the 3rd quarter. If Fox would change those two things right there I wouldnt have a problem with him.

I wouldn't necessarily pin this all on Fox, and I wouldn't necessarily say it's always a bad thing, but there have been a few games (no, I can't recall them off hand - but maybe two or three of them) where I thought they should've kept on piling on the points.

Also, before anyone comments, "going for the kill" doesn't mean taking stupid risks; it means taking ones that may be unnecessary.

Good points man.

Fox definitely goes into conservative mode, but I would argue that with a 3 point lead haha. I really think people don't understand how close he is to becoming a great coach. Like I said, I'm no fan of his AT ALL right now, but stick with it and maybe you'll see some magic. I prefer steady sometimes bleak development with a down the line reward over simply instant gratification. It gives the organization depth and a storyline to cherish and be part of. More importantly, it can potentially give us a a huge loyal fan base which is my wish more than a quick possibly faux fix.

we were up by ten throwing bombs to wide receivers no more than 72 hours ago

I mentioned that. But usually we backoff after getting a 2 score lead.

What makes fox a good coach

Well I think one playoff berth in the last 4 seasons and one winning season in the same time span really demonstrates how Fox has made this franchise stick out like a sore thumb above the rest of the league.

or that he basically sets a goal for 75% efficiency during the regular season. Truly the mark of a good coach, nobody else says that, but Fox does because he is better than them.

The problem is Fox tries to revive them, give them mouth to mouth, pick them up give a pat on the back and say I'm sorry didn't mean to hurt you friend.

Fox is only good when he quite being too loyal & vanilla. And when he let the coordinators (like Davidson & Meeks) do their job. Their is a reason why Henning look good with the 'Phins right now than his last season with us.

On the other hand, Henning looked far better in 2003 than he does this year. Because having offensive talent makes coordinators look good. IMO, Henning's problem (and Davidson's for that matter) in his last two years was talent. On offense, we had none. In 2005, we had a slightly above average QB, a superstar receiver, and below average running backs. The offensive line was ok. Tight ends could block, and that was about it. We did do one thing well on offense, and that was that we didn't turn the ball over much. And we had a defense that forced a lot of turnovers.

Davidson has more talent to work with now, but for most of the year had to deal with having one of the worst qb's in the league. That put a crimp in our offensive plans and made him look a lot worse than he actually was.
