Does anyone else find this offensive?

The whole point is to grease the wheels to make the ACCESS fair for minorities that were not getting a fair shake at coaching and upper mgt jobs.

I'm not the biggest fan of the cult of diversity, but in this case, it's a strategic way to increase the chances. I have no problem with that.

If a team is dumb enough to hire a coach ONLY because he is black, they will suffer. Same for the team that hires only because he is white.

And it is just an interview.

Sure there is some patronizing that occurs, here, let's interview when we already have someone in mind. So in some cases it's window dressing.

But, there is still that shot that in the middle of the patronizing, that guy wows those doing the hiring and the rest is history.

pstall, good post. How in the hell can you be a fan of the NFL and be racist? Do you only cheer when a player of the same race makes a good play? Never could understand why someone could dislike another person because the color of their skin.

Unfortunately, inbreeding still occurs rarely in the

Carolina's, usually resulting in mental retardation. :frown5:

I don't understand how more black people are not offended by affirmative action all together. It's like saying, "you're so different that we have to make special rules for people to hire you", etc.

I know that if I was applying for a job where the owner hated white people, I certainly wouldn't use the race card to force him to hire me. That job would be made a living hell for me and it would be a volatile work environment.

There again, how can you expect white people to not be offended by the idea that they are being FORCED to recognize a candidate by virtue of race in lieu of qualifications. It would be the same way if all teams had to interview a woman for their head coaching position. In fact, I don't see why that isn't a rule if this one is a rule.

If the process is a joke, make a joke of the process. The NFL acts like it's going to somehow create equality by introducing things like this. If an owner doesn't want to hire a black guy, then a black guy will not be hired. I don't care if he has a quote of twenty to meet.... he'll hire the 21st guy in the door if he's that racist.

The idea that owners should even have to care is the biggest joke of all. Let them pursue the men that will lead them to victory. Let it be the same as it was in baseball. If you refuse to sign black people to be an asset to your organization, then let organizations that do enjoy the fruits of their success. Eventually, the color will not matter anymore because you'll get tired of getting your butt kicked because of your bigoted archaic hiring process. Forced compliance? It's for the birds. In the NFL lexicon as well as the business model, if you recognize and evaluate talent fairly then you WILL have tangible results to substantiate whatever hires you please to make.

The "interview a minority" policy is the worse kind of pandering to begin with. There is no racial motivation for anyone to interview or not based on skin color or other demographics these days, the stakes are just too high. If black QBs can show they can play, then the league knows who has the potential to coach as well. Period. The assistant coaching and coordinator ranks are increasingly being fielded by non-whites, as time goes by, they will be the logical candidates for HC positions. The league having a policy for this is akin to the govt undertaking such endeavors, if you want to ensure that the process gets screwed up, let them continue to be involved with their mandates! If I'm a team owner, and I believe a certain candidate is the perfect fit for my team, I don't care if he/she is flaming (and all that that implies!)! Bring me success and all is well!

If teams already have a candidate in mind, then this kind of thing will manifest itself. Look at us and the Cowher rumors, the FO will have to go thru with this charade even though they have their guy picked. It's ridiculous. The retread coaches with a history of success are NATURALLY going to be attractive to some teams. Yet, here we are with this manure..

:slowly backs out of thread:

:.picks up ten foot pole, then drops it:

Really, threads about race never go over well anywhere. Just let the NFL do what they think is best, and hopefully we get more and more black coaches in professional sports.

This right here.

I honestly feel some black people won't be satisfied until every player, coach, manager, owner, ball boy, referee, cheerleader, assistant, etc is black.

Hmmm, this really offends me...

Naw, Im playing. You have a right to your opinion, and I have a right to disagree with your opinion.

    • All true, Stafford and Mccvay were both talking about "retiring" during those future picks too, I member. In my computer when you make future trade, I feel you have to factor in the worst case or close to it from your side. The big issue for the panthers, maybe even now is that they have not proven they can draft well enough to trade. I know that Dan and company have not traded future picks and they seem to always want 7-8 picks overall. They like to trade 3 picks for 3 picks or 2 for 2.   It would have been great to flip BB for that haul and use those Rams picks instead of the first overall pick...... Verse wise, Jesus what a beast....... Garrett is the top dawg and all, but man this is rough for me. I also noticed this about the panthers they are pedo bears, they like dem young. So a 25 year old verse would have gotten gigged with the panthers. Even with NIL and 6th year, and even coofus fallback, panthers prefer younger players. Monroe Freeling (Round 1, Pick 19 | OT, Georgia): 21 years old Lee Hunter (Round 2, Pick 49 | DT, Texas Tech): 22 years old (estimated) Chris Brazzell II (Round 3, Pick 83 | WR, Tennessee): 22 years old Will Lee III (Round 4, Pick 129 | CB, Texas A&M): 21-22 years old (estimated) Sam Hecht (Round 5, Pick 144 | C, Kansas State): 21-22 years old (estimated) Zakee Wheatley (Round 5, Pick 151 | S, Penn State): 22 years old (estimated) Jackson Kuwatch (Round 7, Pick 227 | LB, Miami OH): 22-23 years old   Tetairoa McMillan, WR (Arizona) — Age: 22 Nic Scourton, EDGE (Texas A&M) — Age: 20 Princely Umanmielen, EDGE (Ole Miss) — Age: 21 Trevor Etienne, RB (Georgia) — Age: 20 Lathan Ransom, SAF (Ohio State) — Age: 23 Cam Jackson, DT (FL)- age 22 Mitchell Evans, TE (ND)- age 22 Horn-22   Fitterererere just turned out to be a awful hire, too green, too willing to please, no sense of what talent looks like on teams other than Seahawks, too much pressure, didnt have the correct network of coaches and FO office people. Kick was herniay leftd him with a bare bones talent to start with and besides taking a bottom level team and improving it, he made it even worse AND trading prime draft picks to prolong the timeline to fix. People forget Dan didn't have the 1st overall pick and 39th overall(that dude looking good for bears) to repair this team. Dan could have traded that 1st overall for a proven 1k WR, 9th overall, future 1st and future 2nd......
    • When I read the OP I was thinking more of the Franchise than the league but I agree.  To me DB is the only guy right now but I could see TMac being on the list.
    • “All-timers” usually stand out early and often.  There really isn’t much wiggle room.  Not many of the greats magically figured it out 3-4 years in.  Franchise greats is another story.  They don’t even have to be all that good to become a legend.  One play or game can make a guy a hometown hero.
