You're getting the wrong idea. Fox was given the option to stay for his final year or walk. Basically the Panthers are saying you're out after next year we won't extend you. Fox may decide to go with a long term deal with another team such as the Bills. In which case we will more than likely strike a deal with Bill Cowher.

It's not like we are extending Fox for another 5 years.

This is correct, they aren't extending him as far as we know. He may get an extension some time next year, but as of right now, he's only got one more year to show he can do something with the team. I suspect that "just" a winning season wont' be enough, either, playoffs or best...

Fox could still leave the team as another poster said, and that would not be unheard of... so we'll see...

RE: Cowher... he's a great coach, and would probably be an upgrade over Fox, but don't expect an instant turnaround.

...I'm happy to bring Fox, and MEeks back. Everybody else...ehh. I hope we either Trade Jake (who the hell would trade for him) or just release him...

BTW..it took Cowher 15 years to win a SB in the best football city in the country. What makes you think he'll turn them into a contender?..

The fact that he had a tremendous winning record, was almost always the division winner.. you know what, fug it. You're right. Cowher has nothing on Fox and had nothing at all to do with Pit being a powerhouse while he was there. Guy is a muppet.

Go Panthers! Remember 2003!

How disappointing....

I was expecting the biggest meltdown in Huddle history and yet, we're all still here.

This is exactly what I thought was going to happen because from a business standpoint, it makes sense. Keep the staff but don't hand out extensions because that way, if it doesn't work out and there is a lockout, the organization doesn't need a full staff and it saves money that way.

I can deal with Fox returning for maybe one more season. Maybe he'll realize his old school bullshit doesn't work anymore and actually try different things like in the Giants game.

However, if Jake is allowed to come into camp as the job his and someone else to compete for it, I'll be way to upset.

The offense really has not looked like a typical "Fox Offense" in the last two games. I can't remember it being like this since... well, maybe since the 2003 playoffs or maybe... 2005 was it? can't recall... either way, it's been a long time since we've had this constant threat of a vertical attack...

If this is confirmed,we might see some coaching positions filled. Guys may have been waiting to see what we will do before making their move. With our job out of the running, they will have to go a different direction. I expect that Dallas would be the next place folks will wait to see if there is a change.
