its amazing what winning a couple of games has done to this fanbase. before matt moore stepped in everyone wanted to hang him. now that we stomp the vikings and giants, everyone wants him to come back.

you guys act like other people who want to see him gone made that decision after these to games. no. it was made up over these last 8 years.

What is also funny is that you guys know EXACTLY how john fox is. you guys keep saying " if he removes delhomme". we all know he will not do that . he is stubborn to a fault. unless his hand is absolutely forced. if he gets extended he wont be. he hasnt changed in 8 years what makes you guys think he will change now?

I dont think Fox is a bad coach and I dont think hurney is a bad gm. I think the whole Qb incident is a bad mistake they both have made that has put them in a hole. Allthough I dont agree with some of the things they have done like the play calling and trading our first rounders, we are a good team that jake has ruined. Dont forget we havent worse than a 7-9 record under fox and we have been to the playoffs three times and each year afterwards injuries seem to keep us from the repeat. I say to hell with it since they are both under contract next year.

Kind of skewed isnt since most of them havent been head coach's that long. Compare apples to apples and its a different story.

I think one thing people forget when throwing out these numbers is that his first year here, he was taking over a 1-15 team. Did you expect him to take them to the playoffs the very next year? He improved the team enough that they went to the Superbowl only 2 years after going 1-15. Don't act like we didn't have a poo ton of injuries in 2004 either. I don't blame him for not making the playoffs his first year (2002) or in 2004. Now there isn't much excuse for 2006 but then in 2007 we had the whole QB situation.

Well, it's not like it's a surprise. It's just more par for the course (or more SUBpar for the course). Like everyone else, I am just going to have to wait and hope that we find our way into a successful season). Lord knows that we would be due one, because that's how the Foxball rolls.

BTW, no coach could turn Tampa into a contender within a year, but I am sure that Cowher would have them in success mode within five years time. If he were to come here, IMO we would be a championship caliber team with a couple of years. Fox's record of success really is no comparable to Cowher's, regardless if some want to dream it so.

thats for sure. bills resume.

In Cowher’s 15 seasons, the Steelers captured eight division titles, earned ten postseason playoff berths, played in 21 playoff games, advanced to six AFC Championship games and made two Super Bowl appearances. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles. It has become an article of faith among NFL pundits that the Steelers do not have a bad team two years in a row – they have never lost 10 or more games in consecutive years since the 1970 NFL merger. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach.

Why would we want a coach like that? :smilielol5:

not we could have no back to back winning seasons, a super stubborn mule and bad clock/game management until we are officially out of the playoffs. YEAH!!!:D

Horrible news.

At least he didn't get extended.

One day maybe average to below average won't be acceptable or tolerated around here.

Until then I guess we can be satisfied that we aren't the *insert worse team that us.

I mean they do give out trophies for being a few games better than the Raiders and Browns right?

2001 teams wasnt as bad as there record makes them.

I think all of us are in agreement here that as long as Delhomme is not the starter, some hope is still to be had.

I'm not fully on the Fox bandwagon, but I do think he gives us (lord help me for saying this), "The best chance to win." Cowher is not a god as some of you think. He was simply a good enough coach, with a good enough staff and players, with an owner/franchise that believed in him and kept faith, despite his CONSISTENT loses in the playoffs. The facts:

First 6 years: lost in playoffs (including a Superbowl XXX loss)

next 3 years: no playoffs

next 2 years: lost in playoffs

next 1 year : no playoffs

next 1 year: lost in playoffs

Then FINALLY an improbable Superbowl win (which, of course, he followed up that win with a crappy 8-8 year). And yet you guys are screaming for Fox's head and a replacement of Cowher? That's 13 solid years of nothing before finally winning the big one. And you want to talk about mediocrity? Sometimes stability in coaching/staff/players is the best route to an eventual Superbowl run.

I will agree that Cowher has better playoff experience and may be able to get a slight push towards the Superbowl, but he isn't a savior. He'd be placed into a brand new setting. It would be presumptuous to expect killer results after one/two years of controlling the Panthers.

Let's have one year of seeing what Fox and company can do with someone who isn't named Delhomme.
