Fox Ball = Run the ball to set up the play-action pass.

Fox Ball = Stop the run, pressure without blitzing, create turnovers.

I like these things.

yeah, I like them too. Too bad they don't even come close to describing our football team in the great majority of our '09 matchups and in many matchups in previous years.

More than one fox in the henhouse?

Richardson fires Fox and he is on the hook for $6 mil + new coaches salary.

Richardson announces Fox and Co. will be back but as a lameduck with no extension and with several new and juicy career options in both the NFL and college popping up. Discretely lets Fox's agent know that if Fox receives an offer he likes in the near future he can get out of his contract with Panthers. Fox finds that opportunity and the security of a 4+ year contract and bolts. Richardson gets the both of best worlds and can move ahead.

Yaz seems to think the same thing.

Let’s not go putting John Fox back on the Carolina sideline for 2010 just yet.

Tom Sorensen of The Charlotte Observer broke the news today that Fox and his staff will be offered the opportunity to return next season. But look at the wording of Sorensen’s story closely. Fox will be offered the chance to come back for the final year of his contract -- he’s scheduled to make about $6 million a year.

So, yes, Fox, who’s been mentioned as a hot-seat candidate most of this season by virtually everyone, very well may return to the Panthers. But there’s more to this story. As Sorensen points out -- and this is extremely important -- Fox will not be offered a contract extension.

A player is never going to say his true feelings about a coach or coaches. It's like any boss, some players like them and some don't.

We need a coaching change here in Carolina. A fresh approach/philosophy is always good.

Always the classy guy. Thanks for your insight, Dan

The changes in the organization that Richardson is going to make were already made and that was firing his sons and hiring Danny Morrison.

I have a source that several of the bigger issues that have happened over the past couple of years, ie. Delhommes contract, Peppers situation, trading of 1st round picks ect. actually was coming down from Mark Richardson as direct orders to Hurney and Fox.

With the news today, I think this could be JR's way of saying "I know it isn't intirely your fault but now its on you to fix it."

I really think Jake is gone and there will be some very interesting moves happening this offseason.

And for the record, for the crowd that would like to say the Cowher's resume' is better than Fox's, you're correct but not for the reasons you think. Cowher has a championship and Fox doesn't.

When looking at first 13 years of his career, the fans in Pittsburgh wanted him gone after the loss to Dallas in the Super Bowl. I even know of some fans that were pissed when he didn't retire after the Super Bowl win because they thought they would finally get rid of him. Cowher for the most part had the same repuation that Fox and Marty Schottinghimer and Jeff Fisher have. Ask almost any Steeler fan and they will tell you Cowher got lucky in winning his one and only Super Bowl.

I am not so sure Fox comes back. Sources say that he would be in demand if he were to hit the open market. Without a longterm extension, it is very possible that Fox and the Panthers reach a buy-out agreement.

What would the Panthers have to buy out? A buy out would only come into play if Fox had more than one year on his contract. With Fox going into the final year of his contract the Panthers hold the cards.

Actually, by not giving him an extension they are giving him a vote of "no confidence" and it will be interesting to see if his ego can handle it or if he goes looking. Hell, maybe we can even swing some draft pick compensation if Al Davis stays lucid.

Kinda how they handled Turgo. The Panthers need to hire The Donald.

Fox never had as good a gameplan or as good of play calling this season like he's had the last couple of weeks. Ladypanther is 100% right.

I'm not defending John Fox, but I have to say .......... And I suppose that, as a fanbase, we are to forget how poorly Panther players did their job? How they failed to execute? That, of course, had nothing to do with our record. Seems logical, though, that players better executing the game plan makes the game plan work better. /end sarcasm

SOS We need a change. New Philosophy is needed on this team. Fox has his finger on EVERYTHING in this organization.

Sorry Dan, but isn't a head coach supposed to in some fashion? What has anyone thinking that Cowher wouldn't dig his finger in even deeper? He wants to be both GM & coach. He was in Pittsburgh.

Hard to go against Dan's opinion, he's the only one on the board who can speak from experience. Watching Matt the last few games confirmed that their is plenty of talent on this team. Fox and Hurney need to unwind the Delhomme contract, he damages the team to sit on the bench with that guarantee.

Second, I believe that the demise of Mark Richardson provides some advantages where Fox and Hurney lose much of their grip going into 2010. We had a genius in the front office in Bill Polian and the BIG Cat's boys got in his way. I think the Big Cat learned from that, brought in a successor who is quite capable in Danny Morrison. You can bet he is here until he wants to retire, and Hurney and Fox report to him. So the needed changes are underway, Fox and Hurney get reeled in...........

Finally! On page 7 at 50 per page! IMO JR is probably giving Danny Morrison time to review and evaluate the team and the whole situation without saying it explicitly. It was probably Danny's idea to make this announcement now to get people off Fox's, etc back without setting anything in stone. And so the coaching staff will know what is going on and can do their jobs in the offseason. There can be an extension offered later, or not. JR has always respected his people and this just further demostrates that.

Jerry Richardson is brilliant. He started the whole shake-up when he forced his son's to depart. Now he will set back and watch the pieces fall into place. He is known as a hands-off owner but, I'm sure he does influence decisions when he wants too. And I believe with the state of this franchise and the money involved he is hands on right now. How do you get rid of three employee's that you owe over 22 mil. without paying them.....make their future uncertain. Make them want to leave and give them that option even tho they are under contract. If they decide to stay, it comes with conditions. You saw what Dannyboy did to his HC this year in DC, it could happen here. So, set back and enjoy the last game and the off-season...as others have stated it should be an exciting one. And for those of you cursing JR and calling him an idiot........you don't get to where he is in life by being stupid. Change is a coming.

PS.....don't think that this press release wasn't worded exactly the way JR wanted it. I'm sure he and his advisors worked every angle before hand and have a plan of action which every way it may go. I believe he's "got his ducks in a row".
