Biggest priority this offseason??

See that worries me because the FO could say, "Let's get the picks instead."

Here a good read on restricted free agents. It is from last year but the Panthers could tender Moore for a First and Third round compensation and only have to pay him around $2.8 next season. If another team picks Moore up they would have to give us those picks. In either case it would be a win-win for us. They could also just do it for a first round.

First- and Third-Round Compensation

Any team that makes the unusual move of giving one of their restricted free agents a contract tender offer of $2.792 million this year will likely lock him down for the year. Few teams opposing teams will part with both a first- and third-rounder unless they have an excessive number of draft picks and see the restricted player as a must-have franchise-level player. And even then, it's a costly proposition for any club.

There really isn't a single player in this year's restricted free agent group who is likely to command this level of a contract tender.

First-Round Compensation

A team will have to commit to a $2.198 million offer to ensure themselves of at least a first-round pick as compensation if they decide not to match an offer from another club. Again, this level of commitment usually limits the number of teams who will even consider making an offer since few teams want to surrender a first-round draft pick.

You could see a player such as Houston tight end Owen Daniels receive an offer at this level to make other teams think twice before putting a multi-year deal in front of him.

Second-Round Compensation

In 2009, it'll cost a team $1.545 million to receive a second-round pick as compensation should they decide not to match a qualifying offer from another NFL club. While this level of tender has become salty enough to keep the bidding down to serious contenders, it's not so unreasonable to expect that players tendered at this level could land with another club.

Signing Moore should be our first priority. He's earned the starting job, he knows the 'system', and he knows the players. The players are strting to know him as well, and are responding positively to him. We don't have a #1 pick until 2011, and the current crop of potential QB prospects coming out of college are rated, overall, as weak or questionable (Bradford's shoulder). Resigning Moore will be cheaper than any #1 pick would be anyways, and he's more of a known quantity than an untested rookie, no matter how much potential he has. In other words, it's a case of 'dealing with that devil you know' than the one you don't!

Address the WR position. We need at least one other receiver who can stretch the field and take the defenses focus off of Smitty. Moose isn't a #2 any more, though he should be a decent #3 next year. Special teams and line depth on both sides of the ball need to be taken care of as well as best as possible. of course, the Pep situation will impact that. Is trading one of our RBs worth doing to get a quality, established WR or a high draft pick?

I hope it isn't determined that Jake HAS to start based on what he's due to make thanks to that ridiculous contract extension the FO gave him. I say the FO should try to restructure or rework it, if he doesn't want to, then release him and take the money hit. His value is as a backup nowdays, and I think he'd be a good one for us, but he's not a starter anymore.

Basically the way it's looking, he will be a Panther next year unless a team wants to give him big time money, which I don't think will happen. Do you see us signing him to a multi-year deal?

They might give him a 3 year contract. But I hope they just tag him let him play next season and see what he does. After that either sign him long term or let him go.

If we can some how get a 1st, I'd say Draft a WR, as long as it's not Damian Williams, I'd rather not take my chance with another USC Wide Receiver. Brandon LaFell, Dez Bryant are great options if we somehow get a first. And f we some how get a first in the top 3, I want Suh if he's still there.

If we don't get a first, the only reason I don't want us drafting a WR in the second is if Brian Price is still on the board. He's a great DT, and we can really use him. If he isn't, Golden Tate, and Arrelious Benn, are great options for some one oppsite of Smith. Benn imo is more of the guy who can be like Moose.

3rd could go ether way, I really wouldn't mind getting Dan Lefevour as QB to breed, weather Moore is here or not, but that's only if we drafted a WR. If we haven't Eric Decker and Jordan Shipley should still be there. I don't really want Shpley, he's good, don't get me wrong, but I don't see us using him like we should be doing Goodson. Slot

Receiver. Marvin Austin is the only viable DT I could see is getting in the 3rd.

4th, by now, we should have both a WR and DT, and now it's time for a QB, but not many are left. If, and that's a pretty big if, LeFevour is still here, get him without a second thought. If not, look around the board. And depending on the Peppers situation, Brandon Sharpe would be a good choice if he's still around, though I think Brayton and Brown could and should do well enough.

5th is pretty much the same as 4th. get a QB or DE if needed, if not, another WR is a good idea. I like Jeremy Williams from Tulane. Or maybe Nathan Overbay, a TE, is good idea. Jacoby Ford is also a good idea. I like the idea of using him a return man, sure he only has two returns for scores, but he's got 967 return yards.

6th and 7th rounds we should have everything. I'd pick up a Lineman and Corner. But I really don't know any names that'd be down that list.

I love how this thread was about "Biggest Prority" and I went on my soapbox about how our draft should go. :V

We still need competition for Moore. Thats the reason why we're in the poo we're in now because we didnt get any competition for Jake. That and Fox has a hard on for him. I would like to bring in a FA QB. Then draft day, BPA between QB and WR (in terms of which position to pick first). However I think if there is a guy we specifically want at QB available when we pick, we will HAVE to take him. Cant risk losing him.
