I made threads about Stroud before I realized we were taking Young? Where are the locked ones?

We were 1 game away from winning the NFCS.. they were dead last in the AFC... you tell me.

That's not a measure of a team. Our division sucked like ass last year. Put any of us in any other division last year, including the AFC South, and we're likely last too. I know damned well, every team in the NFCS would've probably been last in the AFC North and AFC West as well. We sucked!

Moreover, you're acting like Robert Woods hasn't been solid. He had an injury, but he's still Robert Woods. Nico Collins was expected to improve this year. Tank Dell is proving his supporters right, and Metchie coming off his illness was an excellent receiver coming out of college. Lastly, Dalton Schultz is arguably better than Hurst.  I think the RBs are arguably a push. The lines, at least this season so far are comparable.

Admittedly, I'd have rather hired Ryans than Reich.

Again, last year was a mirage. Furthermore, all teams try to improve and progress. No one's out there standing still.

If you agree that Darnold and Allen's first games where they looked good were ultimately a mirage then why are we hoping Bryce Young suddenly clicks against lesser competition? We've already seen that story play out just as you stated. It sounds to me like lowering the bar which is going backwards from where we were even before Cam got here. Sad state of affairs.

I don't think it makes sense to use the collective "we" because this all seems to boil down to what your personal expectations were for Bryce.  If you are using Cam's rookie season as the bar and expected him to be a star from Week 1, then of course you're disappointed.  If you expected he'd need some time to transition, then you're still calm and hopeful.  I'm willing to be patient...we're not a playoff team anyways, certainly not with our piling injuries to key players.  I don't need him to "suddenly click", I need (or at least expect) to see incremental improvement and for him to get more and more comfortable over the course of the season.  I would say we certainly did see improvement from Week 1 to Week 2.  It wasn't a great Week 2 performance by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a baby step in the right direction and that's OK by me.

I think more unknown than lesser talent. Example more people know who Adam Thielen and DJ Chark are versus Tank Dell and Nico Collins

Thielen last year had 700+ yards. TMJ had 400+. The top two for the Texans had 400+ and 500+. They drafted a WR in the third round. We drafted one in the second. Their offensive line finished in the bottom third last season. Ours was smack dab in the middle. They had a good RB who surprised people, we went out and bought a guy that had better bulk stats and efficiency stats and had a history of being decent at catching the ball. They hired a defensive minded head coach. We went offensive.

Yes, going into the season the Panthers looked to have more talent and a significantly more promising offense than the Houston Texans.

Something to keep in mind when comparing Bryce, CJ, and AR’s performance to date.

You want the guy with the highest ceiling - long term - the guy who will get better over time etc.

Bryce has qualities that you dont just pick up over an nfl career. The things he is lagging in right now are learnable.

AR is probably closest of the three now to as good as hes going to be until injury takes him out for good in a handful of years.

CJ is slinging it, he will grow and may be good but his ceiling is not as high as bryces, just dont see him being “great.”

There’s always risk with a drafting ANY player but I think bryce has what it takes to come out on top, even if hes off to a slow start over a laughably small sample size.

Lets checkin in 3 years.

I agree with what the executives (allegedly) have said.  He's shown the traits that got him taken high.  Still some things he needs to work on, as per usual with a rookie QB, but unsure if the team has the talent around him to allow him to make that jump this year.

Why do you believe Bryce has a higher ceiling than CJ and that this is as good as Richardson is ever going to get? Richardson played in two games and got hurt and Bryce played in two games and got hurt. So why the injury concern for AR but not Bryce?

Yeah you can’t tell me Bryce has the highest ceiling. During the draft process I believed he had the highest floor due to his supposedly “elite” processing skills but as far as ceiling went he was always last in that category.

You can’t coach the strengths CJ and AR have either.

Fans equate QB ceiling with “is he big and fast” laboring under the delusion that you can just mix in a bit of Coach Em Up and he can learn everything else and add it to the traits.

there are things Bryce does right now that long term NFL QBs never develop the ability to do.

Richardson will never be as good at these things. They aren’t “just a bit of coaching” away. He may be a spectacular player but it will be doing things his own way and his ceiling in comparison to things that Young excels at is lower. Maybe he’s a great player, maybe he’s better overall. But it won’t be because his frame and speed are a commentary on his “ceiling.”

you could honestly argue that Richardson’s frame and mobility are a cap to his ability to develop these things. Guys like that have never developed the ability to move a pocket around the way a guy like Brees did because they’ve never needed to. Perhaps at some point some unicorn will come along with a really unique environment he was grown in as a younger player that allows him to be the best of both worlds, but until it happens you’re going to continue to operate under the belief that guys like that simply don’t develop those rare skills to their peak extent because their athleticism didn’t force them to develop those skills at the most crucial stages of their development.

edit: im all for drafting athletes at the QB position and developing them to their best, especially with how much easier it is to play QB in the current NFL. But we haven’t seen the Brady/Cam hybrid yet and it may not be possible. So much of what Cam did poorly was baked into him because he could do other things that perhaps conflicted with his ability to develop on those areas. And vice versa.
