So ESPN thinks we'll trade DWill for a high first round pick

So Stewart plays two productive games and all of a sudden we are going to trade away the only rb in panther history to have back to back 1000 yd seasons.

never ceases to amaze me

With the pair of Williams and Stewart in the backfield, the only thing this team needs is a qb who doesn't turn the ball over. We do not need a top ten QB.

Davis - Foster - Goings

Foster - Williams - Goings

Williams - Stewart - Goings

Williams - Stewart - Sutton

We're not a feature back team, we need both of them.

I know QBs are the fashion and everything, but all we need is a QB who doesn't make stupid plays and we'll be successful.

We know what Double Trouble will do, we don't know what some college QB will do, I don't care how highly touted he is. He could end up being Matt Ryan, or he could end up being Jay Cutler.

Keep Moore, keep Jake as an emergency option since we'll take a hit for cutting him anyway, let the other two walk, and stop signing QBs because they're 6'6" and ripped all to hell. So was Ryan Leaf.

Who'd have thought before 2009 that Cutler would fall into the Kelly Stouffer category?

This would be an extremely bold move along the lines of the Patriots trading Seymour to the Raiders for a #1 pick. I thnk the Pats have 3 #1s and 4 #2s in the next 2 drafts.

Seymour was 30 and in a contract year Deangelo will be in a contract year next year and a 5 year Vet.

I just don't see the Panthers having the stomach for it. Without all the picks the Pats have stockpiled can you imagine the Panthers moving forward with no DWill and a QB who might not produce for a year or two?

Its risky, but it has paid off before in the past.

Indy traded Marshall Faulk to the Rams, someone they would have lost in FA anyways and drafted a guy named Edgerrin James to replace him. One of the shrewdess moves in the last decade.

Just curious Zod, what was the GM's name who pulled this off for Indy? And has he ever worked in Charlotte before?

That's it KT, I just don't see our GM gettin' it done.

Some of you people kill me. You question the football IQ of posters on the board just because they won't fall in line with your way of thinking...thinking that is based solely on opinion.

I don't know if I'd want to trade D. Will either, but I realize that the NFL is a business, and sometimes you have to make the tough decisions...decisions that will undoubtedly upset a large part of your fan base. I can accept the displeasure or disappointment, but the backhanded insults are really not necessary, and could be construed as a lack of faith in the team as a whole (and specifically the RB corps).

Cry all you want, but it is obvious to many fans that the Panthers have two top running backs (one acquired, possibly, at the expense of acquiring a possible franchise QB). Now, whether you like it or not, Stewart has shown that he can and will carry the load. Yes, there have been questions about his toe/achiiles, but the fact of the matter is that Stewart has always answered the call of duty, and in fact has ran well against top run defenses (and shredded inferior defenses). The man is not chopped liver, and could very well do the same types of things that D. Will has achieved if he is afforded a similar workload. Moreover, Sutton has shown that he can move the pile (as well as Goodson). Personally, I would like to see more of Sutton, not less. All this being said, of course I'd rather have D. Will because he is D. Will. But if he is the bone that affords us the ability to acquire even the scent of a franchise QB, then a move like this may be worth considering because ultimately it may make our team even more complete.

Some of you are just conservative chickens who are not willing to upset the applecart, even though the applecart only has three wheels. The only thing that is going to fix the cart is a QB who can win games, absent the presence of a running game. The thing is, even without D. Will, we still have a running game that would be formidable, and move the chains.

We could get more picks for Williams, and running backs aren't that hard to replace. Take emotion out of it, people.

I'm never going to take emotion out of it, because it's part of the reason I have so much fun watching the Panthers. That's just me though.

For a top 3 pick? I would seriously have to consider that if I were them. Stew has shown that he can carry the load for the whole game. I would hate to see him go, but I would love to see us get a young, stud QB. I know that its a crap shoot sometimes in the draft, but if we got Clausen I would jizz my pants.

So because of one game Stewart has proved himself to carry the load? Seriously

I like this right here. People are not willing to part ways with a beast, but if it ultimately gets you a franchise QB who takes you into the playoffs year in and year out, why not pull the trigger.

It's not even guaranteed that we would be able to keep him in 2011

I don't think I would welcome that move at all.

If it happened it would have to be a top 5 pick AND more picks on top of that, which I don't see happening, so for me I doubt it would be worth it.

I think were better off trying to trade Peppers again. Either for a single first or at worst a second.(assuming he still doesn't want to sign a long term deal)

You make some great points.

I'm definitely not a conservative chicken I just wish we would have or will go about getting a QB in a different way.
