So ESPN thinks we'll trade DWill for a high first round pick

If we are going to get rid of a RB don't let it be Deangelo make it Stewart. I don't think we should get rid of either RB for any QB in this draft. Definitley not sold on Clausen even though he had a great year. I would rather have the Mallett kid from Arkansas in a later round, guy has a ton of potential. I still think we need a veteran QB that can run and make things happen when the pocket breaks down(not gonna mention any names).

:iagree:

DeAngelo has missed time in college with a broken leg and sprained knee, and in the pros with an ankle, which is injured again. NO running back is exempt from getting nicked up. If we did trade a back, there's no doubt the front office would ensure that there was a capable backup in place, only this time they probably wouldn't spend a first-rounder on one.

People in this thread just don't want DWill traded because he's their favorite player and they own his jersey.

Oh, and we'd never get a high first rounder for a running back, anyway.

No, I don't want him traded because he's BETTER than the guy we're talking about keeping suddenly AND that guy has had this freakish foot thing going on for years. Stewart is a ticking time bomb if doctors don't fix that very soon after the start of the season.

The dumbest part of this thread is that it took ONE game where Stewart got the majority of reps over Williams for a thread like this to be made and taken seriously. ONE game.

The posters here are so near-sighted it's ridiculous.

We could get more picks for Williams, and running backs aren't that hard to replace. Take emotion out of it, people.

Weren't you just saying that running backs don't get you anything in the draft?

Besides, you and a lot of other people are going about this the wrong way. Why screw up a good thing by trading away part of Double Trouble if you can get the most picks by trading away the guy that doesn't want to be here, Julius Peppers?

Again, this trade would be so idiotic on so many different levels.

it would be sad as said before, but think of who you you could get. say he does get traded, and it is to seattle. they need a rb, and they have 2 FIRST round picks. we just might be able to get both of those (which most likeley won't happen), we could get Sam Bradford, Dez Bryant, maybe even Derrick Morgan, or someone else that we need. i say it would be worth considering.

Yep and they saved bunches of money in the process of not having to sign Faulk to a new deal.

I wouldn't necessarily want a top 5 first round pick for DeAngelo, but if we could get a 10-20 pick and another mid rounder, then we would be trading DeAngelo for potentially two starters in draft picks and saving possibly 40 million dollars in cap room.

People need to stop thinking we could get such a high pick for either one of them. C.J. Spiller is the top running back in this year's draft and he's not projected to be taken until late in the first round. It's the way the NFL is now, passing over rushing.

No, i said we wouldnt get a high first rounder for him. I didnt say RBs dont get you anything, you read that wrong.

And i dont think anyone waited for just "one game' to come to the conclusion that Stewart could be the starter. There's been signs that he can be a starter since his rookie season, and rushing for over 100 yards and a TD against a team that hadnt allowed a 100-yard rusher in 36 games just confirmed it.

Yet they also need a quarterback and offensive tackle. Those are what go in the first round, not running backs. They'll keep both picks and take Bradford with the higher pick or Mallett with the lower one and use the other pick on an offensive tackle.

Its risky, but it has paid off before in the past.

Indy traded Marshall Faulk to the Rams, someone they would have lost in FA anyways and drafted a guy named Edgerrin James to replace him. One of the shrewdess moves in the last decade.

Just curious Zod, what was the GM's name who pulled this off for Indy? And has he ever worked in Charlotte before?

The only reason people are even bringing this up is cause he is hurt and Stewart is starting. I like the way we have it now. Dwill and Jstew just grind on a Defense and wear them down without wearing on themselves. Yea Sutton and Goodson are promising but who knows with them we have a very good thing right now......

Nope, won't happen.

Top 3 pick, I'd take Suh over any QB in the draft.

this. too bad the bucs and rams wont want a rb. the browns decided to turn it around, and they might have wanted d-will. maybe the chiefs will bite (and we can package our 2nd or something for dorsey, i kid, i kid). i want suh like you. if we kept pep and add suh, that make for one of the sickest DL in the nfl.

while loosing williams would suck, i dont want to get stuck with larry johnson pt 2 (different style but faulk, lt and others have just hit walls quick, few have survived for long). rbs come and go so quick in the nfl. if we could get suh or hell bradford i would be thrilled. stewie can carry the load for atleast 3-4 years just like williams is doing now.

Yep, Shawn Alexander, LT, LJ, Clinton Portis, etc.... teams don't always do so well after extending RBs contracts. If you resign DeAngelo after next season it will have to be at least a 4 year deal and how many people really think that in 5 years, DeAngelo is still going to be productive?

I'm not going to read this whole thread, but my take is this: We should not even consider trading Williams. Dude is a beast. I don't care if we could get the #1 pick. Besides, spending a 1st round pick on a QB doesn't necessarily equal success. Too many examples out there to have to explain that to anybody. Keep what we got, cut Delhomme, draft a QB in the 2nd round next year, get everyone healthy, start Matt Moore next year and let's see what we have.
