Josh McCown

Thatts becuase they picked up pennington. I think Mccown should be brought back and given a chance to compete for the starting position. I say load the QB position up and have 4 quality QB's in for TC (yes even Jake). Let the top 3 stay and cut the 4th one.
i could deal with this. draft one or pick one up in FA and let them all compete.

the major thing that i'm afraid of is jake having things skewed in his favor because of his history and relationship with the guys. the selection isn't going to be as objective as it needs to be without pressure from above.

jake is going to have his supporters in the lockerroom (mainly, gross). as long as he is on the team, he's going to have more of a chance than he should.

I personally can't see any situation that has us re-signing McCown other than Jake being released. I personally do not see Jake being released and thus I do not see MCCown being offered a contract.

Those that feel he deserves a shot, well he has had one. In act he's had one at four teams. He is a moderate back up QB who everyone knows will be cheap and it would appear he knows his role as well. He is also not young. I see no upside to having him here next year...

This is what I think Fox will do too, but Jake will be the one cut. So we might as well give him one last training camp to get ready to say goodbye to the team.

......... The depth chart going into training camp, to me, should look like this:

#1 - Matt Moore

#2 - Josh McCown

#3 - Rookie

.........

I hope that is not all the Panthers have going into training camp...... They need to bring in another free agent QB to compete for the starting spot.

Really not a great group of Free Agents next year. Pennington and Orton would be my top 2 choices but they are not long term fixes.

Jason Campbell – Washington (UFA)

Kyle Orton – Denver (UFA)

Tavaris Jackson – Minnesota (UFA)

Chad Pennington – Miami (UFA)

Kellen Clemens – New York Jets

Charlie Batch – Pittsburgh

Kyle Boller – St. Louis

David Carr – New York Giants

Dante Culpepper – Detroit

Jeff Garcia – Oakland

Rex Grossman – Houston

Joey Harrington – New Orleans

Jon Kitna – Dallas

Patrick Ramsey – Tennessee

I agree there are no long term fixes on the list of free agent QB's. What I think the Panthers need is a gap filler QB between now and when a drafted QB is ready to take the reigns. I would much rather have a Campbell, T.Jackson or Moore if he can beat one of them out start than some drafted rookie.

Not hard to beat them out. Pennington and Orton are game managers which is what we really need. Let the defense and Rb's win the games for us. We just need a Qb to not lose the game for us.

pennington is nothing more than a band aid to the situation. orton would be a much better fix long term. also i am not sold that campbell is as bad as washington has made him look. he has no running game this year and a line that is the worst in the league.

it sounds like carr i know, but even carrs contract wasnt as bad as what we did last year with jake. if he would take a 2 year deal w/ a optional 3rd at 5-6 mill base and 3+ in performance escilators, i would jump on it. i think demand will be higher for him than others on the list though.

i am still firmly in the troy smith camp. sign smith and moore to nearly identical contracts, let the best qb win the starting gig in camp and preseason. the loser would become the primary backup, with a rook as #3.

i think mccowns time has come and gone though, atleast here. thats unfortunate as he has shown he was capable in zona. he had the blackhole to deal with, and honestly i can flat him for the crap they run there. it was hopeless. if he had only got here in 07 and not carr, things could have been much much different imo.

However, Fox might have lobbied for him to end up on IR because he was a threat to Delhomme's stranglehold on the starting QB position and putting him on IR was a way to guarantee his starting job...either way, he is an experienced veteran who has been with Carolina going on two seasons now.

Paranoia ftw.
