There are no easy answers. Someone has to step up and at the end of either options this will still not be a good team but one has the chance to pick a 1st level talent and have the room for a good FA or 2 with Burns being elsewhere. I would take option 2 every time given Burn's value on the field vs what he wants and will be paid. It's not just a draft pick but also room to sing free agents along with the picks trading away Burns gives in value.

So the plan is.

Trade Burns for the late 1st.  Then turn that pick around and take a edge rusher to save on cap space?

We aren’t drafting another QB this year.

can we have a real conversation here.

Not in the first round.  Next year's QB draft is so deep we'd be foolish not to take a flyer pick in the mid rounds.  Dalton isn't going to be here forever and if Bryce does or doesn't work out it would be nice to have a developing guy as the eventual #2.

Also how many picks you think your getting for him.

I don’t see getting more than a late 1 for a guy in your words “isn’t a foundation piece”  that is seeking to be paid more than Watt and Garrett

Burns should net more than a 1st but that's all you can really talk about until the new trade value is revealed. QB, HB, WR, OL, DL, LB or CB are all needs. You act like Burns would be the only hole if we traded him. This is a bad team, draft who you can and bring in some prove it FAs. It's also not saving on cap space but spending elsewhere. Those are 2 deferent things and you know it. Case in point, we could have spent multiple 1st and a starting WR elsewhere by just going Dalton.

What to do what to do.

do we pay him that large deal he is seeking or trade him before the deadline.

Ill be honest I’ve wanted to keep him but the price tag has me does leave a little nervous.

But do we trade him.

Last season we all know by now that the Rams offered 2 1st and more.

Reality is, that won’t come across again.

Rams were in a last ditch effort in a closing win window with a Aging QB, and a HC contemplating retirement.

Burns also had another year on his rookie contract and no one knew what he and his agent were seeking number wise on his new deal.

Now the cat is out of the bag what he wants, and many here question if he is even a top 5-8 edge rusher in this league.

So why would anyone offered that for a tier 2-3 edge rusher (in some minds) knowing that they’ll also need to pay him 30 mil a year.

So let’s make a deal for mid to late 1st rounder.

Great.  We now we can use that on a WR or CB.

But now let’s look over at the rest of the roster.

Now we are left with only Barno and DJ Johnson as the Only edge rushers signed in the roster for next year.

So I’m curious for the ones quick to jump on the trade Burns wagon.

what the overall plan other than trade player x for _

We’re in a pickle at this point.  And would love to see what some peoples overall plan is if we trade _ for _ other than just saying your going to do it without looking at the roster repercussions.

We trade Burns, period.  Too much money to tie up in one player that's not your franchise QB for a team with too many holes to fill going forward.  We could use the draft capital as well.

Its always is good practice to draft a mid to late rd QB every other year or so.

but this isn’t about that.

A good team that needs a pass rusher would pay that because it would be worth it to them. KC has done it. The Rams way overcompensated and were saved by us.

You are just floundering and trying to revert to a logic discussions and not the discussion you were 100% wrong about this season and are now grasping.

So a non foundation piece avg edge rusher that’s seeking to be paid top 3 at his position is going to net a boat load of picks.

and this isn’t like the CMC deal where your trading a guy on a big contract.  That situation, the team trading him has to eat the money.  The team trading for him will be the ones handcuffing themselves down to his new deal.

Yeah they did it.

they did it to teams with a guy on a big deal already.  Where they aren’t eating that whole big contract.

I think the ship has sailed on Burns being traded.  Fitterer and company decided they were gonna keep him, and I don't think he's going anywhere.  This regime probably has 2 seasons to show some progress, and blowing up the entire team to start over isn't gonna get it done.  They went all in on the Bryce Young trade and they're gonna have to make the best of it to win ASAP.

This is a rebuilding year.  Hoard as much capital as possible (cap space and draft picks).  We aren't making the playoffs this year.  The difference in a 4,5, or 6 win total is meaningless in year 1 with a new coaching staff starting a rookie QB.  Not to mention we are already banged up severely which hampers our competitiveness.  This team is going nowhere this season.  Get what we can to springboard us into 2024.

Y’all tell me how the play works out in Madden.  Burns isn’t going to get traded unless something crazy happens.  Burns is going to get paid and many of y’all are going to flip out regardless.

Last year’s Rams turn down tells you all you need to know about how the Panthers value Burns.  While the future isn’t guaranteed, especially in football, I don’t see the Panthers trading Brian Burns unless some drastic stuff happens.
