Gantt says we will let Dwill walk in 2010.

I think the Panthers, and Gnatt, have a lot more important things to talk about in 2010 rather then what might happen in 2011.

i.e, the coaching staff situation, the QB situation, the second WR situation, the depth situation, caused by the Peppers situation, the draft in 2010, all things that should be talked about for 2010.

I keep waiting for an insightful article from any of the sports writers in the area and never see one. I've seen insightful articles on the front page of this forum.

Stewart to me, he may very well have some structural and bio-mechanical issues with that foot. Who knows if he will even be around in 2011.

Seriously, did anyone actually read the article?

The first question the Panthers will have to ask themselves is what kind of back Williams could be for the next five years. Can he be a Marshall Faulk, a guy who is as good in the second contract as in the first? Or will he taper in years seven and eight and become an expensive burden, the guy you have to give the ball to because of his money, when he's not able to deliver?

There's a good chance Williams can maintain his current level, especially since he didn't take all that much work his first two seasons. There should be tread left on those tires.

Stewart will be a factor in Williams' longevity as well, as having a productive sidekick keeps him from having to take the 300-carry beatings that shorten careers.

It's a wonderful commodity to have at the moment.

But in another year, the Panthers are going to have to decide how to allocate their resources at the position.

They're going to have to decide whether it's better to buy backs in bulk, or to invest in blue-chip players.

They might be faced with the reality that no matter how much they love Williams, they might be better off handing the ball to Stewart and finding him a sidekick.

They swallowed hard in 2008 and released Foster, two years after making him their transition player and signing him to a three-year deal. That contract was signed a month before they drafted Williams.

So there's precedent for both extending Williams and for moving on without him.

Which path to choose will be a tricky — and expensive — call.

That's why they're glad to have depth, and time to think about it.

Even the article's title is phrased as a question.

Nowhere in it does he say that the Panthers are planning to let Williams walk. It says only that they have decisions to make on what to do, and that one of their options is to let Williams go and make Stewart the number one. It depends on what they believe Williams can do.

We broke the bank to keep Pep, Jake, and Gamble this past off season.

If this organization let's Williams walk, instead of paying him....then they have officially lost their ******* minds, the stupidity will show up in glowing lights brighter than the sun being 5 miles from Earth.

Letting Williams walk would be a mistake, and the whole Panthers organization knows it. So when we are talking about D-Will we just decide to let him walk, but when it comes to Peppers we stick a big ol' franchise tag on him??? The Panthers do not, I repeat do not let players walk that are a vitale and important part to this teams success.

Gantt is just an attention *****!!!

P.S. It is also to early in the morning to be making @sshat threads like this.

you only quoted the first few lines of the article. anyone too lazy to read thru it will think he's refering to stewart being the reason why carolina would consider letter williams go after 2010...when that's not true.

from a business stand point, it makes sence to not resign him.

I would hate to see D-Will walk but one thing I cannot understand on this fourm is how so many think we can sign anyone anytime and never give it a thought as to how we can afford them. D-Will has earned a big time contract and if he wants to play hardball will get it. Can we affort to keep him, Pep, Davis, Beason, etc. and give them all what they want?

And thus the reason why fans would make horrible GM's. Not only should they be worrying about what could happen at the end of 2010 they should also be looking at what could happen in 2011 2012 and 2013.

My biggest complaint with Hurney has been his inability to look into the future and not just the present with building the team. We all remember what happened with Hurney's transition from Davis to a very promising Foster without any other backup plan. IMO, Hurney number one concern this offseason should be looking at how to handle Williams upcoming FA because how the plan to move ahead with that really is going to dictate a lot of other moves.

I read it, and again, its to me a pointless article. It may be in the minds of the Panthers planning for an uncapped year, regardless, I am more interested in their building blocks for the 2010 season, particularly since in March of 2010, my little invoce comes to pay for 2010 tickets. I want to know there is some thought to improve the product on the field.

I'm just being silly, I know.
