Why didn't John Fox have any loyalty to Rodney Peete?

Mr. Scot nailed it.....only reason Peete started was BECAUSE of Fox loyalty. The team's scouting department checked Jake out to the nth degree. They even watched his sideline demeanor with teammates. Peete "didn't lose" seven games in 2002, but he also started throwing picks during the eight-game losing streak. Fox felt he needed another QB on hand because Peete was losing it and Weinke possibly didn't have it, so they went after Delhomme, who would come cheap. So he went with Peete in the opener even though it was obvious to most that Jake had much higher upside. Peete laid a huge egg against Jax and you know the rest of the story.

Peete had history with Henning

And was brought in to run a ball control offense ,don't remember Rodney throwing many long balls .

Peete was already long in the tooth and Fox was looking for a long term starter.

When Peete crumbled in the first game ,Fox knew it was time to make the change to a Q B that could throw it long

Look, Jake was ballyhooed prior to the 2003 season as the QB of the future. The Panthers made it known that he was the QB they had sought and gone after quite aggressively. Peete was a stop gap measure in 2002, and that hadn't changed the next year, he was there to 'hold down thr fort' until Jake was deemed ready. Peete was sooooo bad in that Jax game that Fox really had no choice, and while Peete had helped the 'Cats improve from that dreadful 2001 season, it was obvious to all that he wasn't going to be the answer at QB. Thus, the insertion of Jake in the second half of that game, and it was one of the best games in the 'Cats history.

Fox has a history with Jake. What success thay have had has been together. I understand loyalty, but it has to be about trust, as in 'can I trust you to get the job done NOW?'

Here's something I've been trying to figure out today. When John Fox came in 2002, one of his first signings was Rodney Peete at quarterback. He obviously knew that Peete wasn't a long-term solution at age 36, but check out Peete's 2002 stats:

223 of 381, 2,630 yards, 15 TDs, 14 picks, won 4 of his last 5 games in 2002.

And here's what got him benched at halftime during Opening Day 2003: 4 of 10, 19 yards, 0 TDs, 0 picks

Looking at Peete's half vs. Jacksonville in 2003, those numbers look downright awesome compared to several games that Jake has had this season.

Now I'm not about to say that Fox was wrong in benching Peete and turning it over Delhomme because he absolutely was. But why was he so quick to pull Peete in Opening Day no less and yet has refused to officially bench Jake despite having the worst season in franchise history?

Because he moved from NY and became a racist redneck. thats why?:beatdeadhorse5:
