It's because this team refuses to hire a black quarterback despite there being at least two of them in the league that can actually play quarterback. Quite obviously, our front office is racist.

Delhomme was number 2 at the end of preseason.

Fox pledged "open competition" for camp, but it was BS. Peete was anointed the starter after sitting out the entire preseason except for one series in the final game (if I remember correctly).

Cowher was said to have met Fox at midfield after the final preseason game (Steelers, obviously) and told him "If you don't start that Delhomme guy, you're crazy." Delhomme had gone 11 for 11 in the game.

There were still a load of Weinke supporters too, but regardless of allegiance, the general feeling from fans was that Fox's "open competition" statement was crap. He'd planned to start Peete all along, regadrless of preseason results.

No tricks here, I'm just legitimately curious. The year I remember least of the Panthers is the '02 season for whatever reason.

Thing I liked about Peete was he would never loose a game. What I did not like was he would never win one either. He could not throw a ball more than 12 yards.
