Smae start, same 0-2 record.

Not sure what's going on with Cincinnati this season they haven't looked good.

Burrow is injured.  Has been all preseason.  They tried to say he was good, but its a "calf issue" which is the same thing Rodgers had all off season before he tore his Achillies.  Calf is code for Achilles in the NFL.

Also, for those that watched the game last night, look at the throws Purdy was making.  You want to see a super processor?  That's what it looks like.  He knows where the hot is, he knows when to give his guy a chance, and he's throwing into tight windows based off what the defense gives him - but it's all completely confident and with conviction.  And like Bryce, he's not a big guy and doesn't have a huge arm, but he clearly knows wtf he's doing.  Bryce doesn't look like that at all.  He's fuging scared.  Purdy was throwing into tight coverage most of the night, but he was putting it in good locations and giving his guys a chance.  That last deep ball to Deebo was a perfect example and was 30-40 yards in the air, iirc.  Coverage was great, but he went back shoulder and gave him a chance to make a play, and he did, for a TD.  Bryce is so risk averse and scared of making a mistake, he won't even try that or give our guys a shot, and when he finally gives in and tries he has no touch on anything deep so its so inaccurate they don't even realistically have a chance.

Again, there are clearly issues with scheme and playcalling, but we have how many WRs this season at 6'2" plus, and we're not even giving them a chance to use their strengths and body guys.  If everyone keeps pounding the table saying they can't get separation, then let them go up and get it, threaten the defense and let them make plays with their size.   But again, that separation poo is overblown to coddle Bryce... Chark and Thielen didn't just crawl out the womb yesterday.  TMJ and Viska had no issue getting open before this season.  Now, all of a sudden we have the slowest worst route-running unit in the league, simply because we have to justify the Bryce pick.  It's bullshit.  And I know it's been at least 5 passes across two weeks where one of our guys had broke over the top of the defender and clearly had a step on them but Bryce overthrew them by 5-10 yards.  So again, I'm tired of hearing the "not getting separation" poo.  And also, AGAIN, I acknowledge Reich's system is fuging dinosaur poo at best, but the plays are fuging there.

I think if you swapped Bryce and Purdy they'd look similarly. Bryce would be playing well but unspectacularly in SF. Purdy would look like poo here. Purdy isn't great but he's smart and surrounded by top tier talent. I just don't know how we're going to recreate that here given that Bryce trade. We're going to have to be wizards in FA and the mid-round in the draft.

That's yards per attempt, which factors in YAC. His intended air yards per attempt, aka average depth of target, was 27th in the league and his YAC was top third, inflating that number greatly. Point being that they got some yards, sure, but we saw how defenses collapsed in on the scheme as games and the season wore on; it's no coincidence that only 2 of his 15 passing TDs were in the second half of games, both of which came before week 4 and 1 of those was that missed tackle on Robbie in Week 1.

I can't stand Bridgewater's gutless QB play so I acknowledge that fact, but a downfield-impotent scheme doesn't cut it in today's NFL. It's a big reason why Brees and the Saints got close but never got back over the hump even though he piled up stats - they couldn't take advantage of big-play opporrtunities downfield in closely-contested games.

YAC isn't just a receiver making a corner back miss or breaking a tackle.

Good Qb play and ball placement also effect YAC. You hit a receiver on a slant in stride as oppose to him having to adjust to make the catch that affects YAC.

You could put alot of the 2nd half of that season on teams figuring out Rhule and Brady's scheme and them being unable to adjust. Bridgewater spoke up about their coaching or lack of which is why he got shipped out in the first place.

The whole point though is that passing stats don't tell the whole story, and Bridgewater looked like that everywhere regardless of scheme. Even Brees couldn't make it work once his arm started fading in 2013 or so. It's not a vaiable NFL approach, full stop.

The 49ers system is the ultimate QB friendly system.  Of course he looks good.

Not arguing about whether the approach is successful.

My point was when Teddy pass the ball whether it was YAC or not 7.6 average it was more efficient than people were giving him credit for.

4.2 that's dinking and dunking you need to complete 3 passes on average just to get a 1st down.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
