Moose, and the number two WR

I'd keep Moose as a #3 or #4 if he doesn't want to retire after this season. I'd hate to see him retire as anything other than a Panther.

And I'm not sure why everyone thinks Smitty needs to become Wes Welker. Did anybody watch the Vikings game the other night? The man doesn't need to be relegated to 10 yards passes, he can obviously still get vertical and beat double teams.

Moose to #3, draft (and pray it works out) or sign a #2, send Jarrett packing.

I concur.

Moose certainly isn't a great No. 2, but let's not forget that he had almost 1,000 yards last season. I find it hard to judge any of our receivers based on our poor quarterback play throughout the season. Smith looked pretty bad at times this season, but I would never say he's not a competent No. 1.

Moose would be a perfect No. 3 or No. 4 receiver. I agree that we need to draft a speedy young receiver and maybe also work Goodson into the lineup.

A little more than a week ago, Welker gashed our defense. Then last Sunday, Collinsworth said Smith wanted the team to bring in a No. 1 receiver and let him be the slot.

So arises everyone's fantasy of Smith being used as a Wes Welker type. It's funny we didn't hear these ideas prior to the comment during Sunday's game.

I highly doubt Collingsworth has any clue what Steve Smith wants. I also have a real hard time believing he would rather be targeted inside 10 yards all the time rather than getting downfield and making the huge plays. I think Smitty could be even more lethal than Welker in the slot, given his after-the-catch ability, but I still doubt he'd want to relinquish his role as #1.

He might not have a choice. With the time it takes to develop a receiver and how Smitty's numbers have started to trend downwards, the time to find that new #1 receiver is much sooner than later.

(Oh, and please, no USC receivers this time, 'kay?)

How did the thread begin about moose and end up about smitty... Moose should be here as our number 2 receiver next year at most...outlaw4 you say smitty's numbers are trending downwards when last year was his second most productive season in his career, give me a break, if he had a better QB who could get him the ball more and not overthrow/underthrow him, then he woulda had alot more of those big plays and more yardage this season. You can't blame the receiver on the QB's mistakes...

Smith's numbers will improve when our QB improves. I mean hell, look at Hines Ward. He's still pulling in good numbers and he's three years older than Smitty. Moose is is the ones who is slowing his production, no matter the QB. Let him catch the 3rd down ball. I want our first or second pick that we get to go on a WR. I love Moose and all, but it's about that time, man.

This.

I hope we avoid USC players at that position like the plague.
