Bryce Young QB School Week 2

If Dalton performs well, it will be hard for a coach and GM who are expected to compete right away to put Young back in. We might very well not see him again until next year if Dalton actually proves he still has what it takes to start and racks up a couple W's. I know it's only game 2, but he shows 0 signs of being worth what we gave up for him, not in the slightest, imo.

Not all QBs pan out... not all 1st round picks pan out... not all #1 overall picks who teams trade their WR1 and future 1st rounder pan out. We might have to accept that sooner than later.

It is entirely too early to make a determination on whether or not the trade was worth it. That's really all there is to say.

P.S.: I agree about Mingo. I also realize that he's not going to be AJ Brown, especially after only 2 games. I just noticed how you took exception to a handful of comments about his poor performance so far (which weren't even mean spirited), but let slide the absolute poo slinging that Bryce has received since the first preseason game.

I don't agree with some of the ugly stuff directed toward him but most of the stuff here is tame compared to Twitter. I also felt bad seeing his family struggling watching the game Monday night. It sucks a real human being has to face the brunt of all this. But that's what comes with the territory of being a number one pick. I spoke on this before the draft and tried to caution the hype train around him but many folks had already left the station full speed ahead. Now I'm the bad guy? No sir.

Tell that to your fellow mod who is comparing Bryce to Jimmy Clausen in every other thread.

well, look, I get the comparison to a degree.  Not so much as players.....but the Carolina offenses.  It's basically operating similarly.  Difference is, Jimmy was just bad and had talent he could of taken advantage.

Bryce and Jimmy clearly aren't the same players.  The offensive results are similar however.  There was a big difference in what was around those 2 in terms of talent.

Expecting almost any WR coming out of college to run precise routes is about like expecting a rookie QB to walk into the NFL and be able to single-handedly lead an otherwise poorly-designed, poorly called, and poorly executed offense to greatness.  @frankw is correct, the same (reasonable) expectations and standards apply to both.

Generally young WRs have not had to be precise route runners in the past.  Don't get me wrong, some do, but they are generally not the guys you are going to find in the second round and often not in the back end of the first.

It is the same as a rookie QB having to learn just how fast NFL defenses are.  How many saw anything close to that on a weekly basis?

Both Mingo and Young have learning to do.  It's called being a rookie in the NFL.

As far as the Panther PR machine leading people to believe this was a playoff team ready to launch, what did we expect them to say, the truth?  "Strap in Panther fans, the first half of the season may be ugly."

As for people on this here forum thinking we would be 12-5 and a playoff menace, well, that is another story.  The relationship between unrealistic expectations and disappointment applies.  But, they are called fans (fanatics) for a reason.

Okay so I've calmed down a bit. It does looks like separation is the biggest problem, not Bryce. However he did have some flats open even in that JT video. And that love tap sack was a bad look. Hopefully he will put on some size and become a little stouter over time.

I'd like to see Reich let Bryce loose though. The offense needs to be more aggressive. Throwing on first and second down would help a lot. Tell him not to care about the picks. Learn the NFL throwing windows through experience. Playing scared is getting us too many 3 and outs.

Yea alot these guys are some sensitive Nancy's but they dont any problem calling our receivers, bums, scrubs, and anything else can think of.

Nobody is attacking Byrce or has given up on him developing.

Some people simply think that trade was wild to begin with, and now faced with how the offense has been looked the last two weeks, are starting to revisit some questions that were already there.

Hopefully this week in Seattke we can see some improvement offensively it sucks watching games knowing the defense is going to have to nearly pitch a shutout for us to have a chance.

I was living in northern Virginia for Joe Gibb's second stint as Foreskins head coach.  I was not then, nor will I ever be a fan of whatever the name of the team is in DC, but I was force-fed the stuff since I lived there.  They drafted Jason Campbell late in the first round.  Gibbs liked him a lot, and he was billed as the future franchise QB.

Gibbs drilled into him that whatever else he did or didn't do, just do not throw interceptions.  You guessed it, he responded by being averse to throwing the ball downfield.  Almost everything was within 10 yards of the LOS, and generally even shorter.

I don't know what Campbell was capable of becoming.  He had talent, and he wound up with a decent career as a journeyman.  But I always felt that we never saw whatever his upper limit was because his first three years having "just don't throw interceptions" beat into him.

Not throwing interceptions is important.  Being afraid to throw interceptions is a different story.

Have you read the huddle this week?

Monday night and Tuesday morning he was already written off as the worst pick of all time.

It's crazy that yall watched the video and still try to find a way to blame Bryce. How many times during the video did he say "Now where do you want Bryce to go with the ball" while looking at every receiver locked up lol. You guys bitch and complain that he holds on to the ball too long , bitch when he throws interceptions, but the reality is our offense is from the flea market besides our 3 O-Linemen and the play calling from Reich is just trash.

Dalton's last start, he generated 170 passing yards and his offense had 7 points.

2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022.  Dalton has been called upon the last 5 seasons to step in.  Never able to get above .500 in with his opportunities.

Dalton to an extent is a Bryce type QB.  Just the opposite end of the spectrum.  He needs the talent around him to do the work.  Bryce because he is a rookie and Dalton because he now sucks.

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
