Jeremy Chinn is terrible in coverage. He's the most overrated player on the roster. I, for one, would not consider extending him. He's been living off his draft status and name recognition for 2 years now.

He is a LB so yeah when you try him at FS it doesn't work very well.  Leave him in the box and let him cover some slots and TEs.

Coverage isn't his thing.  Maybe on a tight end, but that is about it.  Otherwise, his best use is as @tukafan21 said, basically a heat seeking missile locked on to the football.  Sort of a revised version of the monster man.

The Process and Snow either figured that out or allowed that role to happen.  Problem was, The Process being The Process, once he recognized it was working, he had to fix it and put him in a role he wasn't good at.

Chinn is literally smaller faster Luvu. He’s a linebacker. He’s explosive. He’s a heavy hitting guy.

He can blitz, he is strong enough to hold the edge from time to time even if he’s lighter.

A back or TE tasked at blocking him is a tall order. He plays bigger than his size, although he isn’t even small.

The anti-YGM.

Burns to Raiders for Adams and Chandler Jones. Chandler is done there, Adams was brought in to play with Carr and they’re paying him 28M per year.

We take on the contract for Adams to free them up and get a very good DE as well. They get an All star DE + we throw in next years third to get it done. I think Raiders may bite if it gets them something for Jones and they free up almost 30M per year.

Chinn isn’t that good. Not sure why people think he still is. Luvu is our best player on D.

Burns you could easily get that plus some. Maybe not two firsts anymore but definitely 1 and some change.

You could probably get one for Chinn from the right trade partner but more likely multiple day 2 picks.

Nobody wants to hear it but you could probably get a good haul for Taylor Moton before he gets too old and starts getting banged up. Would be easier to replace on the right side as well. But, with Ickey being iffy in this offense, you don’t want to look for 2 OTs this offseason.

And when I say the right trade partner for Chinn. It would have to be right before the deadline from a team who needed SS help bad and thought they had a reasonable shot at the postseason. Otherwise, he is more like a 2 and 4 or a 2 and a next year 3.

Chinn was playing that good, should have won DROY, then got moved to safety for 2 years and now can't get on the field for whatever reason. It's the same story it's been for decades. We have talent but the coaches flat out refuse to use it until they have no other option.

Right?!?!

He's not a safety, he's not a NB, he's a LB who can be shifted around all over the field as needed on a per play call basis.

His rookie year was about the only thing Rhule's staff ever got correct and he was looking like a future all-pro type of player.  Ever since then, coaches have been trying to shove him into a neat little box and force him to play a position instead of just being a heat seeking missile out there attracted to the football.

We will likely have too much cap space available this offseason to get comp picks in return if guys like Chinn walk as we're going to end up bringing in a couple decently paid FA's.  So if that's the case and we're not going to try to actually use him, might as well try to get something for him now instead of having him on the sideline for 70% of the plays this year and watch him walk away for free in the offseason.

At least Burns is out there on the field trying to help us right now, makes it at least easier to understand wanting to keep him around.

Maybe they'll figure that out and try him beside luvu.  He's an in the box ss or a 4-3 olb who needs to gain about 20lbs

it’s literally just one player, one that will likely and very intentionally be replaced with a pretty notable free agent acquisition to compensate

it doesn’t NEED to be reacquired, and if the team does draft pretty high, then you’re likely drafting out of a pretty similar talent pool of players from 25-40 anyways. If you like a guy and wanna move up then do it.

they don’t need to go intentionally seeking a 1st round pick.

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
