Bryce has the fewest open windows in the league, is the most accurate throwing with an open window

He is averaging 4.2 yards a throw and is third worst ever after 2 games.

Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young is still struggling: The learning curve for Young is going to be steeper than initially thought. Playing a good Saints defense, Young finished 22 of 33 for 153 yards and a touchdown (87.1 rating), but his yards per attempt is a major concern. Young is averaging 4.2 yards per attempt through his first two career games, the third lowest in NFL history (only Kyle Boller and Billy Joe Tolliver are lower). His 299 passing yards are the fewest by a No. 1 pick in his first two career starts since Alex Smith in 2005. This doesn't mean Young can't get better, but a poor offensive line and so-so wide receivers aren't helping him succeed. Link

From Payton and Brees to Alex Smith and Kyle Boller territory. But he isn't part of the peoblem...

I don’t know about the play calling to argue with people, but I do know bad execution ven I see it.
The “bad play calls” may be bad play designs, or they may be bad execution. When 2 guys are within 10-15 feet of each other when the ball arrives in their vicinity, I dont think they are running the play as designed.

Yeah man. The lowest rated starting QB via PFF, the same site used in this thread in the OP, definitely is killing it right now.

It's not even accounting for anyone open that he's not seeing or anything like that. It's just going off the decisions he's made to throw. Don't even have the All 22 break downs yet so it's hard to say if he was even making the right reads based on the tv copy

Misleading title.  He has the least throws TO open windows.  That doesn't mean there aren't open windows.  It could also mean he just isn't finding them or throwing to them, and judging from the all 22 reviews people have shared, as well as watching games, they are there, but he's not identifying them.

I also concede the playcalling is shitty.

Not what they're measuring.

They took all of the throws that he made and calculated how many of them were to open windows. The answer was one of the lowest in the league. though not actually the lowest if I read the chart correctly (looks like there was one lower).

That was the horizontal value of the vertex. The vertical was how accurate his throws were to those open windows when they were available. That's where he scored the highest in the league, even higher than guys like Mahomes and Lawrence.

Calculating weather he missed open windows would have required a different stat criteria, basically counting every offensive pass play regardless of whether there was a throw or not. That's not what the data covers.

What it basically boils down to is that he got the second fewest opportunities to throw to an open receiver but he made the best job throws when they opportunity was there.

That’s probably like 2 passes worth of data tbh, you know because our receivers are never open.

They didn't include the raw numbers (would have been nice if they had) but based on the percentage calculation, there would have to have been at least five since a score of 80% would mean a factor of four out of five at the very least.

NFL.com has Young on record as having thrown a total of 71 passes in the first two games. And while I know our receivers don't seem to be doing great job of getting open, I'm going to guess there have been more than five open windows out of that total.

It also doesn't include YPA, which Bryce is averaging 4.2 yards so without more data you could argue he's been accurate on throwing to wide open check downs. If they made a similar chart of pass attempts 10+ yards this would look completely different

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
