A couple of years ago that pass to Smitty when he had the open field and room to run would have been a sure fire TD.

Now, the DB's catch up to him pretty easily.

Smitty is still a very good WR, but it seems his age is starting to show.

I said something similar in an earlier thread and caught 3 sorts of hell abouut it.

When the Panthers drafted Keary Colbert, Marty Hurney walked up to Jerry Richardson with a big grin on his face and said "we got a guy who can catch, boss". That first year, Colbert played very well. Then he got hurt and just never was the same player again.

I don't know what the deal is with Jarrett. He shows flashes out there. He just can't seem to put it together.

There was no clear route to the endzone, and how many times can you expect to break 3+ tackle attempts?

Smitty hasn't fallen off, the Panthers just never get him the ball, and sure as hell don't get him the ball in space. He still is constantly beating guys over the top, but the ball thrown is rarely catchable.

Still, instead of a td, ball at the 4? Is that that bad?

Yeah I agree. I am not too sure what the OP is referring to. Because like you said there was never a play in this game that went to Smith that was a footrace between him and someone else.

I def think it's easy to agree that Smitty has lost a step somewhat.. or perhaps defenses just know we only have 1 WR who can get separation...

but totally disagree with your assessment. Every time I see that replay I think "CUT RIGHT! CUT RIGHT!"..

THat should have been a touchdown.. He ran into the back of his blocker more than anything.

That play actually reminded me more of Smitty's old days as he cut and made his way up the field...

Sure it could have been a TD. But it wasn't because he lost a step that he didn't score.

is this your final answer?

If so, try again.

Someone mentioned the '05 Smitty wouldn't have scored on that play.. I disagree as well. The '09 Smitty would have scored, IF HE WENT RIGHT... :)

What? I am not saying he is just as fast as once was, I just don't think on that play that he didn't score was a result of a lost step. I just think he was indecisive and agree with you that he should have gone right.

Looks to me like you were saying he didn't score due to losing a step. If not, my bad.

But- if you're saying the real reason he didn't score was due to being indecisive and should have went right, then we completely agree..

He's 30, if he hasn't lost a step, it's coming.. everyone can agree with that. I just don't think that play shows any kind of evidence to this..
