Bryce Young hot take

You criticized Young for barely eclipsing 100 passing yards.  I responded by saying Lawrence, a fellow No. 1 pick who had a terrible offense around him as a rookie, also barely threw for 100 yards in his 2nd game.  Not sure how that is "aimlessly throwing out names."  It seems like you just don't know what you are talking about.

I recommend not mistaking your obvious coping mechanism for intelligent conversation.

Enjoy your day my friend 🫡

Watching the games and seeing the wounded ducks. Seeing him sail touch throws and put drive throws into the turf. He's trying to make sure any miss is safe because he doesn't trust his arm to fit it in there because when he does try it's usually a hold your breath 50/50 ball.

See I don't think so.  Yeah he puts a lot of touch on his throws, but he has been pretty aggressive.  Guys just aren't getting open.  But he's absolutely shown a willingness to try to fit it into tight windows.

Look at 1:07 in the same video.  Again another throw where he's rolling out to his left and tries to make a throw off base, this time into double coverage.  Bad decision?  Yeah, but I don't think he lacks faith in his arm.

He has missed some throws but I'm not going to question his accuracy just yet.  It takes some time for a lot of these guys.  Luck completed 54% of his passes as a rookie and he threw plenty of clunkers too.  And I'm sure some will accuse me of "aimlessly throwing names out there," but I do think it is important to maintain context.  You suggested earlier that you felt before the draft his arm was on par with those guys.  I don't think you should let 2 weeks change your opinion just yet.  Have I been blown away by Young?  No, but I also feel super confident in my evaluation of him that I won't throw that out of the window because of 2 weeks.

:58 second mark

The ability to make that throw while not on a solid base and rolling out to his left.  That is not an easy throw for a lot of guys.

But again, we both watch the games.  Clearly you have come away with a different take than I have.  Between his tape at Alabama and what I have seen thus far, I don't think his arm or lack thereof will be the reason why he fails, if he fails.  What makes you think his arm is lesser than the QBs I've mentioned thus far?

there are a lot of floaters in there including the one at :58   not sure what you are watching

:58 is definitely not a floater.  But clearly we have a different definition on what a floater is and looks like, so fair enough.

Bryce Young can make the throws.  I don't know why that narrative continues to be pushed.

At the very least, his arm strength is on par with Tua's, and Tua hasn't held back speed demons like Hill and Waddle.

Again, I want to reiterate.  I accept the possibility that Young might not work out.  But some of the things people are saying is way off-base.  Young missing throws in his 2nd NFL game does not mean he can't make the throws.  He absolutely has the physical talent to make throws into tight windows.

Everybody on this board hopes you're right about Bryce. After 5 straight losing seasons the Carolina nation needs something to cheer about.

I know we don't want to turn the ball over in the air, but I could live with 15-20 INTS in his rookie season if those INTs were counterbalanced with 20-25 TD's and around 225-300 passing yards per game. At least there would be some excitement that he's trying to make something happen downfield & and showing signs that we could build a team around him as he matures. Right now, our passing game is literally painful to watch. It should be this bad with the 1st pick in the draft and the current "brain trust" we assembled for our 2023 coaching staff.

I am not ready to write a player off or calling anyone a bust after two game. No way!

But for my untrained eyes, I cant see him being any better that Teddy. Could it be the WRs not getting open? Sure. Could it be Frank and his playcalling? Sure. Could it be the O-line? Sure. Nonetheless it worries me him not showing just some small flashes.

As I said, I am just a fan. I have no idea what to whats on Bryce and whats on other parts. But most of the fans are like me and we are looking into a season with yet another BoA with no Carolina Fans and no optimism. I live in fuging Denmark and was up the in the middle of the night watching this train wreck. The same train wreck I have been watching for many years.  Bryce was my hope. Bryce was many peoples hope. I am worried.

You compared him to Jimmy Clausen.  So I would agree, this was never an intelligent conversation.

I can't say Jimmy Clausen our worst starting QB in 27 years is the only bar to exceed but you can compare Young to Lawrence and whoever else. You aren't seeking intelligent conversation you are seeking an echo chamber. Sorry this isn't that.

Maybe. Hopefully. But it's also college vs. NFL. Armanti Edwards looked electric running wild against Michigan. He looked like he was wearing cement boots in the NFL. Sometimes we find out that really good college players just hit an athletic ceiling in the NFL and don't have the physical talent to translate to the next level. I really hope that's not the case but I'm nervous. Based on what we've seen it's a legitimate concern right now IMO.

Drew Brees Josh Allen Trevor Lawrence do you not see that you folks are just aimlessly throwing out names hoping something sticks so you can comfort yourself?

How is bringing up other QBs that didn’t light it up right out of the gate but looked pretty damn good after a couple seasons of learning and adding weapons around them aimlessly throwing out names? They were in similar situations. Using the criteria you’re using not one of those QBs would have gotten time to develop. You’re saying a player in their first 2 starts is going to show you exactly what they can and can’t be. And somehow that’s a more reasonable take then how about we give him at least a season before the tar and feathers brigade gets the pitchforks out ha. Come on dude

And the thing is, I could be wrong.  Bryce could suck.  He could be a bust.  Sometimes people are wrong about the prospects they are confident in.  And I accept that people will watch him play and come away with a different evaluation.  It is football.  It happens.  It isn't as black and white as say, evaluating a basketball player.

But I'm going to keep believing in Young because I wholeheartedly believe he's got the talent and skill-set to be a playmaker at the position.

The sad part is we're some dropped INTs away from being on pace for those 20-25 INTs

Are any of them 5'10 with questionable arm strength?

You folks search and search and search for outliers to fit your narratives and feed your feels you did the same thing with Sam Darnold. Stop coddling the kid and comparing him to good or elite QB's until he proves he can even hang with the Falcons or Saints who are without Matt Ryan and Drew Brees. Have some standards for goodness sake.

Thats your prerogative but what we are saying is he hasnt shown hardly any ability whether its in preseason and now 2 weeks in of having any skill set or any ability of being an elite playmaker in the nfl.  Could that change, sure but to date its been pretty meh and he doesnt have an elite skill set to fall back on

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
