Injuries are the name of the game for him. I watched him a lot at BYU and there was a point in his career that he was averaging a TD every five touches.

Problem is, he only had like 20 touches because he was always hurt.

Nonetheless, he’s on all my fantasy teams.

Guys like that typically wind up looking great when they play but missing a lot of time.

More often than not, they end up signing with several teams over their career, each time hoping this time they stay healthy.

I’m all for complaining about not getting a player we should have taken and they end up being great.

But that line probably gets drab at the end of the second round, and even then, only if we passed on the player to take another.

But as others have said, a guy who goes in the 5th means every team passed on him multiple times, it was just an overall scouting miss and/or him ending up on a team that is the perfect fit for his skill set.

I think the larger point is our wide receiver scouts may flat out suck.

5th round rookie just sets the NFL record with most receptions in first two games to start his career.  Looks to me like Bryce could have used that guy.  5th round pick!

Our wide receiver scouts suck!

edit: they don’t just suck because of this pick, look at our draft history

Season does not end after 2 games lol

Meanwhile, Broncos' late 2nd rounder Marvin Sims Jr. just had 168 all-purpose yards and a TD.

Mims is going to be a stud and was in college. Huge fan. Hate that he wound up with Payton and Wilson though.  Just a big fan of his all around.

Tank Dell seemed to also pick up where he left off in college.

Downs is also getting notable grabs and looks in Indy.

It would be nice to have found a guy that can produce rather immediately. Seems like WR is the position where that can happen more than others. Would love to see a nice game from Mingo on Monday.

He’d 100% be getting the reps, just not the volume.

I’m not trying to say I knew Nacua was going to be a stud because I didn’t, but he was very good at BYU. I’m not a BYU fan but for other reasons I watched the majority of their games and when he was playing he always stood out. I said in an earlier post that on a particular BYU broadcast I was watching, the commentator stated that Nacua was averaging a TD about every five touches. When I heard that I was intrigued with the kid. The problem has always been his ability to stay on the field.

In training camp he had already passed Atwell on the depth chart, he was the WR3 heading into the season for the Rams.

A guy with that level of potential would definitely already be on IR here.

Irregardless of the example OP used we do suck at both assessing and maximizing wide receiver talent. Whether that's squarely on our scouting department or Scott Fitterer idk but I know I'm tired of it. If this season is more of the same in that area we need to remove someone from the building.

I really wanted Downs and think he will be a solid slot WR. We had several people on here wanting Mims (you might have been one of them). However, Mingo has a high ceiling and Smith was wanting us to draft him at 39. I think when Young gets more comfortable we are going to be happy with Mingo.

I really liked the mid-round talent in this draft class, period.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
