Top 5 QB performances of the weekend....

I'm with you on this. Moore may very well be the answer. I'm curious to know what others are seeing that have them writing off Moore so quickly. Is it his lack of experience, or are people simply looking for the next Drew Brees?

Personally Moore has a few qualities that annoy me.

He isn't very accurate. But he could theoretically improve with experience.

His timing isn't great. But he is the backup and this will improve.

He doesn't throw that great of a deep ball. But Better than #17.

Oh and his teeth are the yellowest teeth I've seen on a professional QB.

That said I'd like to get the next Brees/Brady/Montana/Elway/Whatever but I also think that we'd be well served to keep Moore on next year to see if he can develop the machine like execution I want to see from our quarterback.

It convinces me even more of what I said before... dump Jake, keep Moore, get an FA QB and draft a mid-round QB and let them compete for it. This way we have a starter a decent backup and a guy to learn the ropes/emergency QB.

Dumping Jake will not happen this offseason....we owe him too much guaranteed money. He would be a great back-up. That being said, unless you let either McCown or Moore walk, we will keep the same 3 QB's next season. I just expect a different starter.

Hmmm... if we keep the same three QBs and either Moore or McCown can execute then our Draft shape won't be nearly so bad this year as I am fearing.

We'll just need a sam, receivers, and line depth.

You would have to pay his signing bonus, but not his salary. It would save money.

Are you sure because normally a bonus is spread over the life of the contract as far as cap hit is concerned. Releasing Jake early would mean the entire bonus gets paid next year doesn't it?

But either way any idea of the total dollar figure if he is gone?

All of his bonus will count against the cap next year. But the Big Cat will save money in the end.

Of the top of my head I think he got a 10 mil signing bonus which are due in 2010 and that will we have to pay him up front. We still owe him some guaranteed money. I actually think we have no real chance of cutting him. He will count so much against the cap that it would be impossible to do so.

I agree with you Zod, I still think we need to begin acquiring QBs in the draft, but Moore played a hell of a game last night and has improved from week to week. Still not sold he's the long term answer, but last night was inspiring.
agreed here. options need to stay open but i'm also incredibly open to the idea that we can rely on moore as a starter going forward.

good point. what's the better option...spending $13mil to buy him out next year and be done with it or $5-8mil per year for the next 3+ years for a guy we probably will never/ should never start again? i think we could use that roster spot better somewhere else. if fox stays, jake needs to go. that temptation needs to be taken away from him.

I'm gonna be livid if we let Moore go in the offseason, it will be comparable to Seifert letting Beuerlein go before 2001. Only worse because it's a young QB.

That's a stretch, considering Buerlein had already established himself as a quality starter in the league.

Don't get me wrong, I really like what I've seen of Moore thus far, but I want to see how he performs in the next two games before annointing him as our next franchise quarterback.

It will cost us $12 million to cut him. We would be able to spread it over 4 years.

Moore threw high couple of times so he's going to have to work on that but otherwise I thought he played extremely well. This was the best QB performance of our season. If you think Jake would have put up these numbers your dead wrong. I think we ran that QB roll out a little too much. If Moore puts up another performance like this than Jake's done for sure as a starter and we will resign Moore.
