To all those that kept saying Matt Moore was garbage

Gee....I wonder where P55 is? I've got a pretty good guess that he is doctoring Jake's finger, and rubbing rose scented suave on Fox's buttocks. Just a guess. :D

I am so happy for this kid. I just hope he doesn't get tossed to the side again because of Fox's stupid, blind loyalty.

Be kind it's Christmas.

Moore had the kind of night he would have to have to get my support. Honestly, I didn't see it in him, up until now.

I was wrong.

What I saw was a good game manager that could, when there was the opportunity to win, be the guy to guide the team to it. He was accurate enough, he forced it when he had to, he took the hits and jumped back up and for the first dang time, he looked like he felt that this was his team.

Is he Super Bowl quality? Not yet. But I do believe that if you give him the next two games against superior opponents and work in the offseason... well, we may just have our next 2003 Jake Delhomme. And yanno, that would be a great thing.

Congrats young man, you took the old man of football to the woodshed last night. You looked like you belonged in the starting QB spot. You looked like a winner.

I think Panthers55 looks very foolish at best. Especially after saying Moore was given the victory against Tampa, yet never would say such a thing about Delhomme and would defend Delhomme when he had a bad game by blaming everyone else (such as the line or play calling, etc) except for Delhomme himself.

I also think those that said Moore was no better than Jake just look plain ol stupid.

Foolish about what?

I though Moore actually looked alot like Jake of last year. He had a pretty poor first half but came out well in the second half. He missed some easy throws and was inaccurate high which is what Jake used to do as well. But when he needed to play well he did very well and make some big throws when he needed to. His fourth quarter was excellent and it was sweet to see all those Viking fans go home disappointed and unhappy. The best part of going to a game when it is cold is to win.

I thought Moore stepped up well tonight and make a big step forward. This thread is about Moore and his development into a possible answer which is what we all want. This was his first time this year that he was able to come from behind and score significant points in the second half and we needed it. I laugh at all the guys who want to make everything a hate jake thread or call out posters who support the team and players..

Matt Moore has a sufficient amount of arm strength for throws of 10-15 yards and really that is all he should be asked to throw in our system. I haven't gone back through the "tape" of the game, but several of his deep throws came up short or came out with too much loft on them. The problem with those throws is that they are easily intercepted. To his credit, when he missed tonight on his throws he missed long which put the ball away from everybody. If he has an off day and misses short on his throws, then there is a possible disaster waiting to happen. When you have a guy that throws easily caught passes due to nice touch, adequate velocity, and tight spin it unfortunately makes it easy for even defenders to catch them.... thus making accuracy even more important.

With that said, I have supported him for starter since Week 2 and it's good to be vindicated to a degree on that. He still has miles to go in order for me to feel comfortable with him back there full time, but he has certainly earned the remainder of the starts this year.

What tonight told me about Matt Moore is that he can be that game manager quarterback that can work inside our system and fill the vacancy there while we groom a future franchise guy. Moore will be fine as a guy like Trent Edwards, Marc Bulger, or Matt Hasselbeck of years gone by if he is allowed to play within a system that does not demand velocity throws of deeper than 20 yards. It does limit your playbook to a degree, but with our running game that shouldn't be a problem anyways.

Having a "big arm", even if that's exactly how they said it, is a superlative that goes about as far as having a "good motor" on a defensive player. It's a nondescript way to compliment a quarterback. I could probably find you some quotes from players talking about Keary Colbert's great hands too but that does not make it any more true.

The truth is that you can take most comments from players and throw them out the window. They want to be complimentary to their teammates, answer your question, and get the camera out of their face.

Usually your best analysis will come from pregame hosts and columnists that you respect that are impartial to the team.

You could probably walk around the room and get as many great comments about Jake as you could about Moore. That should tell you all you need to know about how far off the deep end players are willing to go about one of their own.

You're way too aggressive over this whole thing. I never claimed to be an NFL scout or anything remotely close. Hell, I never even claimed to be a fantastic judge of talent. I was simply conveying what I saw just as anybody else would be entitled to do. "wanna be", is that really necessary or is being rude around here for the sake of being rude the status quo? There was a reason that "tape" was in quotes. I obviously don't have game tape. I figured that was a half ass way of describing going back and watching the game over again and diagnosing his throws.

The pass to Steve was incredibly lofty and quite far ahead of Smith, but if you're going to "miss" a throw to Smith, make it long because the man simply has another gear and the ability to get under just about anything a human being can catch.

There is a difference between distance and velocity. Without getting too much into physics here, adding loft to a football generally speaking adds distance. Quarterbacks that throw great deep balls throw the ball with the least amount of loft that they can to the appropriate destination. The idea being to get the ball to a spot and have the receiver meet the ball at the spot. By adding a tremendous amount of loft to the ball, you're giving not only your player time to run under it but you're also giving the opposition time to run under it as well.

And here is the thing that I don't understand. Since when did the ability to diagnose a weakness in a player make you a wholesale enemy of him? As I said earlier, Moore with his average velocity has exceptional pocket poise, fantastic decision making ability, adequate mobility to roll out at times, and the intangible factor of being able to make big plays at big times. He's the guy we need under center right now, but that does not make him impervious to any criticism or fair evaluation of his play.

I see what I see with my eyes too. I saw a guy that has average NFL arm strength and too much loft on his deep ball. Hardly a career killer for a quarterback with Moore's smarts.

Bingo. If Matt's mechanics are good on a pass, he can throw a 40-45 yard pass without it fluttering on him. Past that, watch out. If Matt's mechanics are not so good on a throw, he can sometimes flutter a 20 yard pass. He needs to make sure he has his feet set or else I see a lot of interceptions in his future.

Geez, you make one comment about the God of all QBs needing to improve in one area and everyone jumps all over you. :smash:

ONe game does NOT make him a superstar!!!! He still has a bad habit of letting balls sail on him. He got it under control last night to a degree. I sure will say that lastnights game was a text book game for what JF wants out of a QB in his offense. Matt Moore looked very promising and his stock with the Coaching staff went way up!!!

Congrats Matt on a Great game!!!

I will also say this, Kenny Moore may not have caught a pass but his ability to run routes CORRECTLY opened the field up for Smitty. That catch Smitty had that was short and he had great YAC was a great result of Kenny Moore pulling the safety with him and opening up the field for Smitty to scamper down to the endzone

Problem is that the fan base is so polarized right now that reason is in short supply. People think that criticizing Moore is a vote for Fox or Jake when really ir may just be a criticism of Moore. It is funny to me that actually Moore and Delhomme share alot of the same characteristics. Moore does not have great mechanics but good leadership skills and made good throws when he needed to. His legacy may have begun last night. We will have to see.

I think at best Moore has the potential to be the "old Jake". I agree there are some similar things that appear to be going on despite some clear differences in what they both do. Moore being "old Jake" would have been enough to possibly do something this year.......it sure would have been interesting to see how things played out if Moore was given a shot after the bye.....

Jase's arm strength complaint is irrelevant. We are not the 99 rams.

Matt has the arm to make all the throws he needs to make. He still has to improve on accuracy though.

But overall he has improved a great deal over the past few weeks. Want to know the biggest sign? Watch the game again and watch his feet. Started the game with happy feet just like in previous weeks, but this time he settled down. Small adjustments in the pocket, not getting panicked. The result? 3 TDs, 0 Picks

Man I hope he can keep it up next week.

I along with most said it couldn't get worse then Jake and we were right Moore has played a lot better. But I still was presently surprised at just how well he ran the offense yesterday. I hate you Fox. If this is how he looks after only 3 weeks with the 1st string think about how far along he could be if he had benched Jake after the Eagles. Makes me sick as most likely we would be vying for a playoff spot. Fox you are the weakest link.

On a side not Ron Meeks called one hell of a game, looks like our D is finally starting to look like a top 5 D. Pep deserves the game ball for how unstoppable he was during that game. I haven't been this happy to be a panther fan all year.

which can work in this system. A new coach will toss him to the side to bring in "his" guy.
