To all those that kept saying Matt Moore was garbage

I was at his 1st game against Seattle in 07. I thought then he was our future. I believe this game was his coming out party. He took on the #1 Pass rush defense in the league and stood in there and played well. 21-33 299 3 TDs and 0 Int. I am not sure what the pass rating is on that but I believe it would be over 100.

Oh the critics are going to say he was lucky and made some bad throws. Well through his first 6 games he is 4-2. I believe the great Peyton Manning was 1-15. He has all the attributes a NFL QB needs. If he is given the job on a full time basis I believe you are going to see him develop into a top flight QB.

I am pump, psychic'd and overjoyed over this game but the fact remains. Moore should be our #1 QB the rest of this season and going into 2010. I think we should move McCown to #2 and Jake to #3 next season. In 2011 let Jake retire.

Congrats on a great game.

Matt Moore has a sufficient amount of arm strength for throws of 10-15 yards and really that is all he should be asked to throw in our system. I haven't gone back through the "tape" of the game, but several of his deep throws came up short or came out with too much loft on them. The problem with those throws is that they are easily intercepted. To his credit, when he missed tonight on his throws he missed long which put the ball away from everybody. If he has an off day and misses short on his throws, then there is a possible disaster waiting to happen. When you have a guy that throws easily caught passes due to nice touch, adequate velocity, and tight spin it unfortunately makes it easy for even defenders to catch them.... thus making accuracy even more important.

With that said, I have supported him for starter since Week 2 and it's good to be vindicated to a degree on that. He still has miles to go in order for me to feel comfortable with him back there full time, but he has certainly earned the remainder of the starts this year.

What tonight told me about Matt Moore is that he can be that game manager quarterback that can work inside our system and fill the vacancy there while we groom a future franchise guy. Moore will be fine as a guy like Trent Edwards, Marc Bulger, or Matt Hasselbeck of years gone by if he is allowed to play within a system that does not demand velocity throws of deeper than 20 yards. It does limit your playbook to a degree, but with our running game that shouldn't be a problem anyways.

I agree with neverlosethefeeling, last week everyone was dogging on moore, regretting him taking jakes place, all the fans were agreeing with fox saying that jake does give us the better chance to win. Everyone thought moore was gonna have a breakout game against New England last week due to their sorry DB's but that wasn't the case, Im glad he played good today, because he showed that Minnesota can be vulnerable in the passing game. He wouldnt of had such a great game if Stewart wasnt running as good as he was. My main problem with more is his early game jitters, he comes out of the tunnel too amped up causing the high/short/rushed throws. All around I respect him for coming in soo late in the season and helping this team win a few more games, and not look like total poo...Hope he keeps playing good and I hope Fox makes Jake sit out the rest of the season and not let him play against the saints

That is odd because the TEAM rants about his BIG ARM.

Okay, I think Moore had a great game today.

But, if you can't write him off because of the bad game last week, then you can't suck his nuts because of a great game this week. One game does not a career make.

Good game, though. I like the kid.

So if Moore started the season 4-2 against 5 playoff caliber teams and one scrub team would you consider him adaquate?

SEATTLE, DALLAS and TB in 07, TB (scrub) NE and MINN in 09. I think for his 1st 6 games he is doing quite well.

I wouldn't call him a one game wonder. He has some maturing as a QB but that will grow as he gets more experience. I think he IS the answer to our QB problem.

lol

*goes to start a "to all those that kept saying John Fox has lost this team" thread

It sure looks like it from time to time, then you get a game like last night. It might be the only thing that saves his job. All the injuries and they play hard. nothing to play for....and they play hard. If only he had put Moore in 5 or 6 games before he had to...

Having a "big arm", even if that's exactly how they said it, is a superlative that goes about as far as having a "good motor" on a defensive player. It's a nondescript way to compliment a quarterback. I could probably find you some quotes from players talking about Keary Colbert's great hands too but that does not make it any more true.

The truth is that you can take most comments from players and throw them out the window. They want to be complimentary to their teammates, answer your question, and get the camera out of their face.

Usually your best analysis will come from pregame hosts and columnists that you respect that are impartial to the team.

You could probably walk around the room and get as many great comments about Jake as you could about Moore. That should tell you all you need to know about how far off the deep end players are willing to go about one of their own.

You mean turning your TIVO on. I will take what the players say and what I saw over a wanna be. Obviously, not very good at it anyhow or you wouldn't be here arguing with me at almost 5am in the morning.

Called Cliche and those cliches are coming from the players that catch the ball, who practice with him everyday. Who's opinion I will take 1000 times more than yours. I don't remember hearing them say JAKE still can make those throws. What I will take is what I saw. Roughly 50-55 yds (in the air) to S.Smith for a touchdown ON THE MONEY. The fact that SS has had more 60+ yd plays since Matt as been at the helm.

You can be critical and watch all the TIVO you can handle. I believe most will agree with me. Moore has ALL the tools to be our next QB.

One other thing. We don't run the WCO. Vertical is part of our game. 10-20 yds won't cut it. Why do you think we went MOORE in the 1st place. If we wanted a 10-20 yd guy we could have had J. Garcia any time we wanted him.

You're way too aggressive over this whole thing. I never claimed to be an NFL scout or anything remotely close. Hell, I never even claimed to be a fantastic judge of talent. I was simply conveying what I saw just as anybody else would be entitled to do. "wanna be", is that really necessary or is being rude around here for the sake of being rude the status quo? There was a reason that "tape" was in quotes. I obviously don't have game tape. I figured that was a half ass way of describing going back and watching the game over again and diagnosing his throws.

The pass to Steve was incredibly lofty and quite far ahead of Smith, but if you're going to "miss" a throw to Smith, make it long because the man simply has another gear and the ability to get under just about anything a human being can catch.

There is a difference between distance and velocity. Without getting too much into physics here, adding loft to a football generally speaking adds distance. Quarterbacks that throw great deep balls throw the ball with the least amount of loft that they can to the appropriate destination. The idea being to get the ball to a spot and have the receiver meet the ball at the spot. By adding a tremendous amount of loft to the ball, you're giving not only your player time to run under it but you're also giving the opposition time to run under it as well.

And here is the thing that I don't understand. Since when did the ability to diagnose a weakness in a player make you a wholesale enemy of him? As I said earlier, Moore with his average velocity has exceptional pocket poise, fantastic decision making ability, adequate mobility to roll out at times, and the intangible factor of being able to make big plays at big times. He's the guy we need under center right now, but that does not make him impervious to any criticism or fair evaluation of his play.

I see what I see with my eyes too. I saw a guy that has average NFL arm strength and too much loft on his deep ball. Hardly a career killer for a quarterback with Moore's smarts.

Gee....I wonder where P55 is? I've got a pretty good guess that he is doctoring Jake's finger, and rubbing rose scented suave on Fox's buttocks. Just a guess. :D

I am so happy for this kid. I just hope he doesn't get tossed to the side again because of Fox's stupid, blind loyalty.
