Jason Campbell clearly the best QB option for us going forward..

Jason Campbell will never be an upper tier QB. If the Panthers make that bonehead decision, they'll be losers for the entire time he is there.

There is not a free agent QB available that is an upper tier QB. Campbell is the best and a good one that could be gotten and makes the Panthers a better team. This team has 3-4 more wins right now this season, at least, if Campbell was the QB. The Panthers are not going to have an upper tier QB here no matter what next season, Campbell will be a good fit here while the Panthers draft and groom some young QB's.

why does everyone assume that you can just go into the draft and just pick a qb and he be elite. alot more goes into making a qb elite besides where he was drafted. it not like the draft is a exact science on qbs anyway. we could get a guy every says is elite and he bomb and we are stuck with him for 3-5 years. or would could get a franchise level qb. either way it is not guaranteed like everyone makes it out to be.

It's definitely a gamble with ANY draft pick, you can't single out QB. QB's get more scrutiny, though, since they run the offense. And you're right in what you're thinking, a good FA can be just as good as a draft pick. But the crop that will be available this off-season is not that good. As people have mentioned, Campbell is playing great...right now, but his overall career performance, IMHO, is just as risky to go for as a draft pick.

What you can count on, though most people don't want to believe it, is that your best chance for a good draft pick IS in the first three rounds. I made this post months ago...

Also...let's take a look at where every current starter was drafted:

Brady - 6th

Sanchez - 1st

Pennington/Henne - 1st/2nd

Edwards/Fitzpatrick - 3rd/7th..and they suck

Manning - 1st

Collins/Young - 1st/1st

Schaub - 3rd

Garrard - 4th

Roethlisberger - 1st

Palmer - 1st

Flacco - 1st

Quinn/Anderson - 1st/6th...and they suck

Russell/Gradkowski - 1st/6th

Orton - 4th

Rivers - 1st

Cassell - 7th

Manning - 1st

McNabb - 1st

Campbell - 1st

Romo - Undrafted

Favre - 2nd

Rodgers - 1st

Cutler - 1st

Stafford/Culpepper - 1st/1st

Delhomme/Moore - Undrafted

Freeman - 1st

Brees - 2nd

Ryan - 1st

Hasselbeck - 6th

Bulger - 6th

Smith - 1st

Warner - Undrafted

---------

Now, let's look at the past nine Super Bowl winning QBs...

Actually seven (not including Tampa or Baltimore)

Roethlisberger - 1st

Eli Manning - 1st

Peyton Manning - 1st

Roethlisberger

Brady - 6th

Brady

Brady

Warner - UD

We can gamble going for a QB in the 2nd, but we really need to get in before the other teams that also may be looking to draft a QB. But you never know, this may be Moore's team next season, which if that's so we need to draft a WR.

Campbell WAS a first rounder though.

Another option would be Jackson. He's similar to Campbell, only younger and still developing. Therefore, he can be had cheaper. If next year is already a throw away year, that would give him a chance to grow for another year and be ready for 2011. He could be a real steal right now.

I would be ok with bringing T.Jackson in. I think either him or Campbell would be a good fit while the Panthers look for, draft, and groom their QB of the future. My first choice is Campbell because I have seen him more and not sure about Jackson as much.

instead of a jackson or campbell...

we bring in a lesser known.. and try to develope him to compete with delohmme.

face it, delhommey is not getting cut..

let matt moore go...bring in a guy like sage rosenfels....or

charlie whitehurst...a little known, but a great athlete who's a good passer and mobile.

then look to the draft for the 3rd qb.

None of this matters unless we get a new OC. We need to be able to pass when its a running down AND when teams know we are going to pass. I'm sick of seeing 2 and 3 man routes, I want to see some 4 and shall i dare say it 5 man routes

what? you drafted a QB of the future while you have on that you're using? that's crazy talk. suckers thinking ahead....

signed,

john fox.

You are so right Rayzor...sadly, so right.

I was always amazed at posters on this board when we had chances to get various QBs in the draft, that there was always another position (fill-in the blanks) that were more important than QB.

Fact is, in the NFL of the 2000s, if a team hasn't got a QB, it has nothing.

A lot of people bashed Reid for drafting Kolb when McNabb was in his prime. There is no bashing now as Kolb has had 2 years to learn and grow, and with McNabb getting hurt all the time, they would have been stupid not to do so.

Nothing lasts forever in this league, never has, never will, and the teams that prepare survive, and those that don't, become the Carolina Panthers.
