Panthers Need A New QB Coach

Has anyone ever wondered why we cannot develop a second receiver? I was thinking that the Panthers have been super unfortunate when it come to drafting and developing them. What if it is Fox's, "eye" for coaching talent, and his inability to see that Richard Williamson does not have what it takes anymore to develop what comes in. I know that he is from the Bear Bryant school of coaching, but what if his style is just old. I noticed that in the past few years that the newer coaches that come in are younger and better able to relate to the youthful players. Maybe Williamson is just too old. Think about it, Bear Bryant, how long ago was it that he coached?

When Fox was hired, I remember saying that retaining Williamson seemed like a good move. The Panthers had Muhsin and Jeffers have excellent years in the then recent past. Smitty developed into Superman and Williamson's star was shining even brighter. Proehl was a seasoned veteran, so RW couldn't louse him up.

But, the milk has curdled. I first called for Williamson's firing over a year ago. This new camera that flies over the field gives a great angle for watching receivers. There is little juking from the wr's to get separation. Watching receivers on other teams set up and fake the DB is awesome. Our WR's do a bit of it with their feet, but little with the upper body.

Having said that, I think a lot of the problem lies, not only with Williamson, but with having a quarterback that can't get them the ball. We've had guys just as talented as the Saint's guys and the Viking's guys but they don't develop the confidence that comes with being productive on game days. When their WR's get open, the ball gets to them in a catchable place. Success breeds confidence. Confidence breeds success. The run-first strategy and feed-the-stud; when passing is necessary; doesn't allow young guys to get much thrown their way.
