A deep threat isn't a magic bullet

With a quick glance it seemed like the Falcons were aided by the lack of field stretching and could operate in a condensed field. Chark and ISM could help this season going forward but just had to operate with what was available.

Overall though this is a weak WR core and it could be an issue that is going to take one or a few splash moves next offseason. I see several potential free agents or trade targets I'd expect the team to be in on.

being 0 and 2, in the division no less, to start the season is quite a buzz kill for the Panthers’ faithful

We have a supposed ‘all star’ coaching staff.  Here’s hoping they figure it out and pull one out on Monday night

its the same brain trust that approved personnel on the team so onus is clearly on coaches to make it work

meanwhile, ESPN has the Panthers and ABC has the Steelers…network hedging their bets …ABC gets the ‘A’ broadcasting team…ESPN, the ‘B’ so there is a bright spot of not having to listen to Buck and Aikman

after what I saw on that one punt return, speed doesn't mean anything if you don't have awareness

I don't necessarily put that on a lack of awareness so much as I do and attempt to play hero.

Heaven knows confidence bordering on arrogance is a double-edged sword that exists in an extremely high percentage of NFL players. Wide receivers and defensive backs seem especially prone to it (we've got prominent examples of both in our team history).

Smith-Marsette certainly sounds like a guy who falls into that category.

It's an unfortunate axiom of the NFL that the bravado which helps you do great things can also compel you to do stupid things 😕

Now, all that said, if his fellow special teamer had been smarter and not drawn an offsetting flag by blocking one of the Falcons gunners out of bounds, we're all looking at that play a hell of a lot differently.

Yea I’m expecting a tough game this week with or without Chark.

I expect the defense to struggle more with Henderson replacing Horn, and that will put our offense in tough situations.

Better opponent...

Strong defense...

Way more experienced quarterback...

Down an important player...

And the growing pains won't all just work themselves out in one week.

Oy 😣

There's plenty of reason to believe we could come out of next Monday looking worse than we did this past Sunday.

I say "adjust your expectations', but the people who have reasonable ones don't need to hear that...and the ones who don't won't listen anyway.

The coaches are in a tough spot this week.

They need to be able to run the ball to take some pressure off Bryce and give him some PA opportunities. I’m not sure if they’ll be able to stick to that game plan unless the defense creates some extra possessions.

I have a feeling we’ll be playing from behind early. I trust Bryce in the long run, hopefully these first few games don’t shake his confidence.

If we clean up the turnovers, the defense looks like its good enough to keep us in games. We don't have the weapons to be a scoring powerhouse yet.

I thought the defense played fairly well, given all the turnovers.  We could be decent to good on the defensive side.

But I will say that we will likely play teams with better offenses than Atlanta.  In fact, our next opponent probably has a better offense than Atlanta.  I am curious to see how they do as the season progresses

If Young can connect with him...

If the OL can continue to give him time...

If the receiver's not blanketed by a speedy cover corner...

If the rest of the offense can capitalize....

Lotta ifs...no real guarantees 😕

Having the threats on the field commands a certain level of respect. Much better chance of keeping safety’s honest with a deep threat on the field

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
